DC Comics: Rebirth

It was okay, I guess. Not quite sure how it stands continuity-wise. Batgirl's wearing a costume she hasn't worn in decades. Batman's wearing, more or less, the 89 movie costume. Alfred's there.

One thing I'm disappointed about is that the classic Milestone material will be made available again over the coming months digitally, but so far nothing in print. I really want those Icon and Static collections.

I'd like to see DC collect the Worlds Collide crossover between the Milestone titles and the Superman titles from twenty-five years ago. I was not able to get all of it at the time; the Milestone titles weren't big sellers, so my local shop didn't order very many of them.

On the subject of crossovers, if you haven’t read it, I’d highly recommend the Superman Gen Thirteen crossover. It’s delightful and hilarious, and the interaction between Superman and the Gen 13 kids yields great character dividends (he’s troubled that they think him a boring square, even as they quickly learn how wrong they are). It’s one of my favorite Superman obscurities.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm not even sure I was aware of it. :)

I got them all, but would love a collection to expose more people to it.

That was an awesome series.

That's a fair way to salvage the work that went into it. It could even be a good story, I actually think that's an interesting team line-up.

December Solits are out. Couple of points:

- Batman/Catwoman by Tom King & Clay Mann finally launches, now a 12-issue series. It was originally supposed to be the end of King's run on the main title, and has been announced as a seperate mini-series last year. Still not interested in reading it, as I'm not the biggest fan of King, and there's already enough Batman material to keep me satisfied.

- The Batman: Black & White anthology returns as a 6-issue mini-series. That's the Batman material I was speaking of earlier. This is so going on my pull list.

- Endless Winter is a crossover between Justice League, Aquaman, The Flash, Justice League Dark, with special one-shot specials for Superman, Teen Titans and Black Adam, with a 2-issue "Endless Winter" mini-series to book-end the event. I'm a fan of these quick events. They not always have the best plot, but they keep the momentum going.

- The Generations Shattered one-shot I posted about earlier is scheduled for the first week of January. Dan Jurgens and Robert Venditti are two very capable writers for this kind of stuff, though I'm not really familiar with Andy Schmidt. The list of artists is impressive, especially for a 80-page story.

- Death Metal concludes (that's nice, they appeare to be able to keep the schedule), with a couple of one-shots. Three of those feature variant covers by Gary Frank which look like they were originally done for the Generations one-shots.

- Multiverse-themed Holiday Special. Didn't pick up last years holiday special, and I'm not sure about this one, either, seeing how packed the month already is.

- After the end of Young Justice comes a Jinny Hex oneshot. Alright, not much of a commitment, so I'll probably pick it up, maybe we'll finally get to see what's in that damned box of hers. Shit, that reads dirtier than it's supposed to. Okay, Jonah Hex's box, that's better.

- Couple more of those "Tales of the Dark Multiverse" oneshots. Not really interested.

- After that new female sidekick of the Joker's, they're now pushing the next character to come out of Tynion's run so far, the Clownhunter vigilante.

- Wonder Woman going up against Deathstroke. Looking forward to that.

- Bendis ends his run on the Superman titles. Guess we could expect his successor(s) to be announced during Day 2 of the DC Fandome this weekend? Also, with YJ ending in November, the only book Bendis will stick around for is LoSH, but we should expect him to do another title soon. Guess, after all those crossover tie-ins, Justice League needs a new regular writer? Well, keeping my eye on the DC Fandome on that as well.

- Batman Beyond ending in December, as well as the "Batman: The Adventures Continue" mini-series and the DC Classics reprint series of Batman Adventures. I was kinda hoping they'd keep the reprint series going. Oh, well.

- Detective Comics has a Batman vs. Damien Wayne vs. Hush story. Oh boy.

- Both Hellblazer: Rise & Fall and Harley Quinn & the Birds of Prey are ending on (re-)schedule.

- Nightwing is finally back to Dick Grayson?! Well, well, well. Maybe giving my support to that by picking up that issue.

- A ridiculous amount of interesting Soft- and Hardcover collections for January and February. Damn, this is going to be an expensive winter.

Well, it looks like I'll be dropping my last DC ongoing (The Flash). I'm not reading anymore damn crossovers, especially not one connected to Scott Snyder's crap.

I wish they'd give Superman back to Dan Jurgens. He brought a good version of Superman back to DC for the first time since 2011 for Rebirth, and Bendis has just done everything he could to destroy his run.

I liked the last ongoing before the writer got fucked over for that atrcious "Rick Grayson" crap, so I might check this out, if its not by the "Rick Grayson" writer.

Now that Bendis is leaving in December, do we give it a year before Superman finds a way to regain his secret identity?

December's line up looks pretty good. I'm going to have to contact my LCS to get the Black Lable Hellblazer. Is it more in line with the old Vertigo version of the character?

So Superman is saved? That's good to hear.

Just for the record, Snyder's got nothing to do with this one. The writers are Andy Lanning and Ron Marz. Also, it's one issue, you might as well skip it and go back to it in January.

Well, funny you'd say that, the current writer of Nightwing is Dan Jurgens.

@theenglish : I've got the first book of the Hellblazer mini-series here, but I haven't read it yet. But I do know the John Constantine: Hellblazer monthly that is ending in November (due to the bean counters of AT&T not understanding that the character traditionally does better in collected editions) is part of Neil Gaiman's The Dreaming line and, so I understand it, set in the original series' universe.
