All the Negative people.

In "Second Contact", you also the Rutherford side plot with Ensign Barnes. In "Envoys", we see how supportive the entire crew is when Rutherford is trying to find a new career path, also the blossoming friendship between Rutherford and Tendi.

There are plenty of human moments sprinkled throughout the show.

I suppose those are good moments.
I did like the parts of them being supportive of Rutherford

Exactly so. And Mariner, for all her energy, has a deeply conflicted back story that informs her attitudes and behaviors.

Good grief, I feel like I'm in a Goldilocks storybook. One Trek is too dark and the other too light...

I respect what the three or four posts above me have said. It is exactly how i feel about the Orville. I jusy love that show for those reasons. I will watch Lower Decks when it drops. I mainly wish it was live action.. I don't care for the silly drawings

So, I saw the pilot today. I'm one of those who thought DSC season 1 was a good start and then hated season 2 (it was utter madness, with magic time travelling suits and Star Wars style battles, along with some of the worst dialog ever committed to a Star Trek production - "yum, yum"). I also found Picard to be very average, and a wasted opportunity. So, maybe I am one of the 'negative people'.

I thought Lower Decks was excellent. Everything the other two series could and should have been. It respects the previous shows and demonstrates that the design ethic didn't need updating. Klingons look like Klingons and it just feels like the Star Trek that I knew and loved. It also felt modern and current. Was it perfect....No. Are any of the series perfect? No. I didn't like the use of modern vernacular, but I can see how the show benefits from it, as there were some funny parts. Dial the humour back a liiiiitle bit and smooth over some of the broad characterisation and this would make for a fantastic live action show. This really does fit with the Prime timeline, in a way that DSC just doesn't and overall, I just found this show a delight. Looking forward to getting it here in the UK.

But The Orville is Star Trek. The only true Star Trek that has ever or will ever exist!:vulcan:

This series is a lot better than I'd ever expected. None of the episodes thus far have been gems but they've made me laugh and the producers clearly respect and love continuity going all the way back to TOS.

Did nobody see the TOS Klingon disruptors being sold by the street vendor in "Envoys"? :)

But this....
