Dare I admit to rereading an old PARTRIDGE FAMILY tie-in just a few weeks ago? And I positively devoured the GET SMART novels when I was a kid.

Yes, I remember reading the Get Smart novels in the back seat of the car when my father would drive us to the Adirondacks for vacation.
I remember being scolded in school for laughing out loud while reading a GET SMART book during "silent reading" period.
I couldn't help myself!
You should have written "LOL" on your notebook instead. ;-)
German chemistry student here, and most of us at my uni only make paper notes. I'd imagine that's mostly because you just can't make efficient notes on Greek letters, or chemical and mathematical equations, but still.^^^I am, too. That's why I suggested writing it in a notebook. (I don't think students write or use notebooks any more.)
There are Get Smart novels!!! I'll need to find a copy of them.Dare I admit to rereading an old PARTRIDGE FAMILY tie-in just a few weeks ago? And I positively devoured the GET SMART novels when I was a kid.
LOWER DECKS would actually be easier to turn into a novel than the average family sitcom or workplace comedy because the set-up still involves exciting missions in space, strange missions, alien visitations, the ship in jeopardy, etc. You just have to put a slapstick spin on it while poking fun at the usual STAR TREK tropes -- and keeping the focus on the Lower Decks folks instead of the bridge crew (who can be dealing with some major crisis in the background).

Could a novel convey the humour of the series? I've never read a comedic novel before.
