No, just that every time someone says they didn't find something in the show funny comments or memes about not having fun/laughter are posted.
You're seeing things that aren't there.
I like Lower Decks but this response is outright false (saying seeing things that aren't there when evidence is earlier in this very thread and reposted below). This was posted earlier in the thread.

Same here. I feel like that level of analysis is going to end up killing enjoyment for many.

Welcome to fandom and internet message boards.

Yeah but that was really funny. Can't you no-sense-of-humor types see that?

Lower Decks is funny. I like the show, but I'm not going to accuse those who don't of not having a sense of humor. That goes way beyond decent discussion and bordering on personal comments.

I have no dog in the fight in this one, but that seems a bit extreme.

I just don't see how someone not liking a comedy cartoon is in any way supposed to be an indicator of the presence or absence of sense of humor in the critic, without having more in-depth knowledge of that person. And I'm assuming the people debating here don't know each other in real life on a daily basis.

I've gotten to know some people here pretty well over the last two decades. Thanks to Zoom, I've now even seen some of them face-to-face. I'm familiar enough with people's posting styles and tastes that I can get a sense of if they have a sense of humor.

I think some people are determined to not like Kurtzman Trek no matter what. For three years, whether it was Discovery or Picard, they've clung to those shows being "too dark", "too edgy", too whatever. Now we have Lower Decks, which isn't any of that, so, like a GPS, they have to think "recalculating route" and this is what we got.

Not to speak for Vger but the difficulty I see is that people who are not enjoying the show pop up for every clip to insist it is not funny. Which is rather odd behavior since it is not a discussion that can really be finished aside from "Agree to disagree."

I sometimes suspect this is the case, especially when "Trek would never..." type arguments surface.

Yup. I realized that with TNG despite all the hype my friends brought around it.

Actual discussion I had with some friends in college...

Me: We should make a Star Trek Club.
Friend #1: Then it'll be Original Series fans versus Next Generation fans.
Me: Shit. That's right...
Friend #2: DS9 is the best!
Friend #1: No! The Next Generation is better!
Me: I like The Original Series the best. And, yeah, let's scrap that idea.

That's why I was President of the Anime Club and not a Star Trek Club. :p

People keep saying that Trek fans who don't like Picard or Discovery don't like it because it's "new", or as above, because it's "dark and edgy".

In reality though, speaking for myself only, I don't like them because I think they're simply bad, be it characters, story-telling, production design etc.

"they don't like anything new" makes criticism an easy thing to dismiss, but there are legitimate reasons out there.

Having now seen episode one...I didn't actually hate it.

Sadly, I didn't even crack a smile. Mariner was way too over the top annoying, but to some extent, all of the cast were. Mariner horribly so. I had hoped that just because it was a cartoon everything wasn't going to be dialled up to 11, but it was. The horrible googly eyed animation style was probably a pointer.

The story was dumb as a rock (not unheard of in Trek, admittedly) and handled in the same way. I'd hoped it wasn't a kiddie cartoon, which the borderline adult content leans towards, but in truth it really was. Just lacking the cute robot/pet.

I'd have flat out called it pathetic if it wasn't for a kernel of charm in there. I'm not sure where it was, but it was there.

I might not have liked it, but I'll watch the next one.

I gave it a 3.
