Lower Decks Trailer Analysis

I wish I could unsee it …

I actually had forgotten that. :guffaw::guffaw:

Everything has to be so over the top, it's so cliched. More asteroids. More idiotic drone ships that make no sense. More wreckage for us to EVA through. Over 400 ships on screen for the Picard finale. zzzzzzzzz.

Supposedly, this was one of Kurtzman's various "canon fixing" initiatives for Disco's second season in which he felt the need to explain why the Crossfield class is double the size of a Constitution class, but only a fraction of the crew (130 for the Crossfield class, 400 for the Constitution class). So his solution was that on the Crossfield class, all the habitable areas are on the ship's perimeter, with the rest of the ship being a giant hollow space in which the rollercoaster turbolift is housed.

A quality production would have figured out the size and crew compliment of the Discovery before commiting the design to an episode, rather than trying to come up with some convoluted fix for it afterwards.

That explains more than a few things about DSC. Kewl factor to wow people who think that kind of imagery is awesome and rad.

That's exactly it. How else do you explain the Section 31 space battle and things like having those drones and shuttles fly around Burnham like a protective cocoon. :guffaw:

Rule of cool is pretty much most of science fiction productions right now. Star Trek is not immune to that sadly.

I’m looking forward to this. Why not?

If it’s done right, it could be an amusing peek behind the curtain of squeaky clean Starfleet. I mean...someone’s doing the shit work, right?

I just hope they’re not going to take themselves too seriously.

We have plenty of that!

To me that is the point of the roller-coaster.

Yes, because sometimes when we see the tunnels there's questions like why the light, why gravity, where are the sideways ones, why doesn't the car have decent brakes they parodied these little odd questions by making a giant cavernous space with a rollercoaster in it. Because that's what these new series are, parodies of the franchise?

How about just having fun? Its ridiculous and over the top and highlights that fans put a whole lot of import on set dressing.

Why wouldn’t we? It is part of the story being told, it is supposed to help immerse us in the world not throw us out of it.

I don't know...at this point I just don't see it as any more than a blip. I ignore it like other discrepancies. Call it blinders, or bias or whatever. I'm interested in the characters and story. The tech side is not as important to me in the moment.

Outside of that I acknowledge its stupid. In the moment I'm with the characters.

I'm liking the Cerritos design more and more with every time I'm seeing it. It's cool that it doesn't look all that out-of-place next to the Galaxy class.

The overdesigned marker pen nacelles look stupid and the nacelle pylons look a bit bolted on compared to the clean lines of the Galaxy, but otherwise it's growing on me

For me, it is based on what they’re trying to accomplish. If you’re doing a super dramatic story like Discovery tries to do, then the funhouse turbo lifts are as appropriate as having Bozo the Clown in the captain’s chair.

Mile will vary at this point. In the moment its easy for me to gloss over, like reusing the bird of prey explosion.

Whereas others like to have a competent production in most aspects, that should all blend together: Characters, story-telling, sets, visuals.

So one shot means I should hate it forever ?:wtf:
At some point it just comes across as petty and mean-spirited. Even if it isn't the intention.

As I said above, turbolifts have had many oddities. The Bird of Prey explosion reuse is painful to watch. The matte paintings are reused over and again.

At this point I think life would be better without Trek. If all these are so bad
