You know one thing this show did well? It made me terrified of the Borg again. I gotta tell you, for that one minute when Seven became the Borg queen and was powering up the Borg drones, that was PURE NIGHTMARE FUEL. It's too bad that we didn't get to see some Borg wreak havoc and see them assimilate some of those evil Romulans.

The Borg don't really project threat anymore, like Picard said they are just victims.

Same for the Daleks and Cybermen in Doctor Who, haven't watched in a long time though.

I disagree. The Borg are still very scary and lethal. Yes, they are victims, but they are still a very serious threat if they ever decided to one day invade the Alpha Quadrant with thousands upon thousands of ships. It would basically be the end for all life as we know it in the AQ if that ever happen.

Not with the technology Voyager brought back with them, we won't see it in Picard but we know they have it.

They are dangerous just like all the other major powers are but they are not the overwhelming threat they once were.

Which is as it should be, when they were first encountered the Federation and Starfleet had no idea that they were coming or how strong they were, Q did Picard a real solid that day.

Ever read the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy of novels? It's all about the Borg unleashing a massive invasion upon the AQ with so many Borg ships that not even the technology that Voyager brought back with them really helped all that much. Those transphasic torpedoes, for example? The Borg eventually adapted to them and, well, the Federation couldn't do much to the Borg after that except ramming their ships into Borg cubes. Really great trilogy and a must read!

I haven't read much of the extended universe books as many of them are not what you would call c***n.

Many of the events in the books end up being ignored by future books and shows which stops me from trying them in the first place.

That was such a waste... Oh no, masses of Borg drones are gonna wake up!!! Nah let's just throw them all out the window.

The Borg were scary a total of perhaps one time between Seven joining the cast of VOY and the moment we see the Borg cube for the first time in PIC. And that was in "Regeneration(ENT)."

I'd argue that the Borg stopped being frightening way earlier than that. Basically just Q Who, BOBW, and First Contact. Nothing else until Regeneration.

The problem with the Borg is they're supposed to be this body-horror concept. Like all horror concepts, they work better the less we know about them. So all of Voyager's attempts to flesh them out actually made them less and less terrifying, and more just a generic antagonist race.

Scorpion was the last time they felt anything except camp until Picard for me ( I don't remember much of Regeneration)

The whole show was so badly written. It's good thing the series had characters going for it, unlike Discovery.
