I must say I didn't really laugh at the trailer, and YES, trailers can mislead, but I DO feel the trailer had a nice sense of adventure which seems very appealing. The phaser bit at the end gave me a chuckle.

How does Picard not look like Star Trek, that 20 years of in-universe advancement wouldn't account for?Stylistically at least, it looks more Star Trek than either Discovery or Picard (which is probably easier to accomplish in animated form). That said, I probably won't bother watching it. Can't say it appeals.
What Star Trek have you been watching? Every series I've watched in the franchise always has an episode that's more laid back and humor oriented. Even the original series movies had a light hearted entry. The key ingredient here is that the humor and tone complimented the series as a whole. You can go from a dramatic episode like 'Balance of Terror' to a comedic one like 'A Piece of the Action' and still believe that this takes place in the same universe.I don't want Trek to be serious all the time

This feels like a different show that's parodying Star Trek except that it wants us to believe that people in Star Trek behave like this on a constant basis.
Do people seriously belief there are no goofy people in Star Trek? That having new technology is treated as so ho-hum as to not warrant more than a Spock eyebrow lift. That humor of the future peaked with a witty, Shakespearean style retort? This feels like a different show that's parodying Star Trek except that it wants us to believe that people in Star Trek behave like this on a constant basis.
So, one thing that surprised me is that Ensign Mariner kind of appealed to me as a character. I have expected them all to be annoying, and certainly purple-haired "Captain's Log" dude definitely will (he reminds me very much of my Star Trek captain obsessed friend in college). But, Mariner has potential.I must say I didn't really laugh at the trailer, and YES, trailers can mislead, but I DO feel the trailer had a nice sense of adventure which seems very appealing.
Which is a stretch, at best, with trailers these days. This series is just Tribbles, Sherwood Forest and Ferengi rescue operations all rolled into one show...and that's assuming it stays as silly as the trailer footage implies.![]()

Yes, Lower Decks is exaggerated in its humor, so it probably won't line up perfectly with live action. So what? Do we honestly need to keep reminding people "It's a comedy-it's OK to laugh?" Because, thus far, that feels like what I have to say to fellow fans.

There's place I go for that. Plenty of great places for good humor, I go to Trek to be inspired and have hope for the future.
Doesn't mean you should instantly hate it no matter what either. It has "Trek" on it I should instantly love it no matter what.
No, usually it's just once a week with time off in the summer.no daily violence.
Well done humor in Star Trek? Not since TOS.Of course there is, and its done -mostly- well in the other series without resorting to goofy antics. (ST:V and INS,excluded.)
Wrong...we've had some decent humor, even in DS9. Discovery had a great Harry Mudd short. No, usually it's just once a week with time off in the summer.
Well done humor is Star Trek? Not since TOS.

You've put way more into this post than I'm willing to. Fold."Hate" is strong word, I just don't like the look and tone of it. the humor is too broad and for me doesn't really fit with everything else it's supposed to fit in with (if this series is supposed to be "canon" or fit in or whatever) it's too much... Well, too much like a cartoon.
TAS was mentioned above which I think was handled much better, it's possible to take advantage of what a cartoon offers, enter the comedic elements that come with a cartoon without being, well "a cartoon" about it. The look and tone of it for me doesn't fit. It's a farce of Trek and not one that's done with sort of a spirit of love like, say, Galaxy Quest, or in trying to generate it's own thing while having the inspiration of Trek like Orville (though some of the humor in Orville's first season was maybe a bit much, it handled it much better in Season 2.)
I'll be honest, I like the humorous aspects in ST:V and and Insurrection there's a joke here and there that's a groaner but by and large I think it mostly fit with the context of the universe. The antics seen in this trailer, for me, don't fit and is just too broad. It feels like what sit-com in Star Trek would be like and not like how the world actually operates and how people behave.
Am I taking it too seriously? Absolutley. But that's just where my mind goes when I think of Trek I like to think of it as something of a sensible universe. And a bunch of antics like seen in this trailer in my mind doesn't fit.
You can have humor without resorting to childish antics and slapstick.
