I might be able to help with understanding that. You are correct in your observations. It IS really good and your renders are very sharp and clear btw, the colour is really nice too.
And still quite something that a design that is so old still fascinates people, there's always someone recreating the TOS Enterprise, either to make the perfect screen/model accurate version or the wildest redesign.![]()
I am 56 years old (about to increment) and I remember when Star Trek was first played on television. You have to understand that there were a grand total of THREE channels (plus PBS) to choose from in those days. Television used to be Black & White. Star Trek came at you in GLORIOUS COLOR! It had a star ship that sailed across the screen. The people were people! They went to wild worlds and yet everything could be resolved with compassion. The crew members defended themselves with the ultimate personal weapon, the phaser! They could TALK to each other in real time with communicators!
Our phones were wired to the wall.
Television transmission was always fuzzy with tall buildings interfering with the picture.
We were afraid that the population of the world would die in a nuclear storm.
Star Trek was a beacon of HOPE. The USS Enterprise was the embodiment of that hope. It was as much a character (if not more so) as the rest of the cast. I LOVE that ship.
This is just my way of expressing the joy I felt when I was that kid. I still love THAT ship. I enjoy THOSE stories. Those characters are people to me. They mean something to me.
I hope that helps a little bit. I'm certain I am not alone.
