I'm playing Elite Dangerous, I came across my first Earth-like world tonight.
Spaceships and menu navigation the video game. The first hurdle is getting used to how the controls and physics work. It tries to be realistic so you have to reverse thrust in the opposite direction to slow down. You also have to manage the ship through a HUD. The training is rough because it takes a hour or so to get used to it. But I got used to it and there are upgrades where you can automate some of the more tedious bits. Depending on what you decide to do you'll probably find yourself going from system to system (there are 400 billion in the game) trying to earn money and gain influence with various factions and groups. It gives you access to better ships and equipment for your ship allowing you do a better job for the role you take. I'm wanting to explore the areas that haven't been explored yet, so I'm currently saving up for a faster ship. But you can do combat, mine, transport goods, be a pirate, bounty hunter, or break laws to help various factions in the game. That's cool. I have heard good things about that game.... What's it like if you have never played before?

The current version allows you to land on planets and drive rovers around planets, there are fleet carriers now, and the next update will let you walk on planets. There are aliens in the game and they're currently at war with humanity in the more populated areas of the galaxy, but there are also ruins in the game that you can explore and non-sentient lifeforms on some planets.
So far I haven't seen any option to use real money other than paying to change the paint on your ship and add other cosmetic details.Oh cool this sounds like a gentler kinder version of Eve Online... I tried that one once and it's got a steepish learning curve and you sometimes need real money to get things depending on how you play.

There's lore, it's been a series since 1984 and there is a lot of worldbuilding in the game and there is a war going on with an alien race, but you're just one person in that universe. Like we have wars now, but a lot of people are still going about their day. It's like that but you're in space. The developers basically let the players do whatever they like and form the world around that. There's a group called the Fuel Rats who took it upon themselves to help players who have run out of fuel. If you run out, your whole ship shuts down and life support only lasts for so long. If you die, you lose your ship (you can buy it back for a set price in game as insurance). So you contact them on a website, they walk you through what you need to do and someone jumps to your location and saves you. They don't charge for it and will rescue anyone. Anyone who kills a Fuel Rat gets hunted down by every nearby bounty hunter. The developers have since made them part of the world with fake advertisements for them in space stations. They also have let players name discoveries. The most recent one is Beagle Point, the farthest point you can go across the galaxy. Some players mounted an expedition to go there, it took 18 months in real time. The guy who started it got to name it after his dog because so many players accepted it as the real name.I just looked up the game, and is doesn't say anything about a story, so is there no story to it? Is it just flying around doing random crap?
It does sound kind of cool, even if there is no story, it still sounds like there's a ton to do.

You can play it fully online with other players or on a private server where you'll only meet NPCs. You can also do missions with other players, both in their own ships or in yours if it's big enough.
I think it needs the internet on all its modes.Does that mean you can play offline without internet?

My connection stinks but I haven't had any issues. I use DSL and it isn't that fast, but everything runs fine.Oh bugger......
My pick for a new Uncharted would be a game set after 4's epilogue, with Nate and Elena's daughter Cassie as the main character, and Nate and/or Elena in the same kind of role Sully played in the others.
depends on how you play really. I do wormhole exploration. low investment, pretty high incomeI'd count that as a blessing.
Eve Online is a very costly mistress
