What games are you playing currently?

Came back to Shadow Of The Colossus PS4 while I'm waiting for Ghost Of Tsushima. Figured I'd try to get all the achievements since I've played the game through about five or so times. Did the same on PS 2. Definitely one of my all time favorite games. Haven't played it in two years and the updated graphics blew me away all over again. Didn't realize the original version was so burned into my brain. LOL!

Picked up AC: Odyssey since it was cheap, but it's not a priority as I don't want to get bogged down in a game before GOT.

^ That was the first R&C game I've ever played. I played all of the after that, but ToD is still one of my favourites.

Anyone else playing Mafia 2 Definitive Edition? It's a free upgrade to anyone who already had Mafia 2. Despite a few graphical glitches such as the steam from manhole covers and the eyes in cutscenes at times, I think they've done a great job with the visuals. Also, I'm really looking forward to the Mafia 1 remake.

Not playing but had to buy a new controller for playstation as the one I use got broken. Scored a new controller with 2 games, Far Cry New Dawn and Spiderman so kind of happy with that deal.

Just curious, where did you find the bundle?

JB HIFI but they ripped me off... Online the deal is $79 and I just noticed I got charged $89 so I'm complaining about that the scumbags.

It's a Dualshock 4 controller with two games. You get Spiderman and Far Cry New Dawn

Oh playing Borderlands 2 Maya and her purple ball of death.......

I'm not even sure what you call it in the game but when I hit F a purple ball goes off and attacks everyone on the screen and I get health given back to me.

What's the official name for that?

Note: I'm not really paying attention to the story just picking stuff up and I thought it was part of the warder mod so not sure what I have actually done with my character. She's just killing everything.

BTW why do people hate Epic Games so much? I don't get it?

Also why do game devs have to use a launcher like Steam or Epic / Origin, whatever?
If the devs make the game why can't they sell direct to the public and avoid all that?

DuoLingo. I just consider it a game because I only remember the stuff while I'm playing, and then mostly forget when I put the phone down, and then remember stuff again when I play again later. It doesn't give me any actual language skills.

For me, in particular, I dislike their practices. Theoretically, it's a good idea to give developers a higher cut, but I feel the way they're going about it is wrong. Console exclusives are one thing, and they even make sense in the context that they're different platforms in the sense that they've got unique titles to attract the masses, but this is the PC we're talking about. The PC landscape should be free of any barriers and any such barriers are completely artificial.

Steam is popular, both by users and devs, not because it's exclusive, but because they introduced a new system for digital delivery at a time when it was in its infancy, and was very much considered an experiment of sorts, so of there were any exclusives early on like Fallout 3, it's more out of consequence. Many didn't think it would last, and there have been many other storefronts that tried their hand and failed early on. They prospered because they were pioneers and grew their features into a reliable delivery method, and many devs rely on Steam's framework and infrastructure for major features of their games.

Enter Epic, and it just seems to me, that with a lack of features people want, the only way they can compete is by waving around AAA exclusives at every opportunity. Big upcoming release? Epic exclusive! Yeah, I get that they want to give devs a higher cut, but it should never be at the expense of being an exclusive. I remember reading about a developer who was approached by Epic, and his studio I think was 3 people including him, and while the higher cut was tantalizing, in the end he didn't accept the deal as he realized that being as small as he was, he'd actually end up hurt by the deal by not having his game up on as many storefronts as possible. For a small dev, that does matter quite a bit.

Higher cuts can absolutely be a good thing, but devs should have a choice in being available in as many storefronts as possible, not be strong-armed into exclusivity for wanting a bigger cut. IHMO, that defeats the purpose entirely.

I blame studios in part for that because Remedy caved into Epic waving dollars and made Control an exclusive when it was first announced and pulled it from Steam, and that kind of thing should not happen either. I think that's part of the hate. But again I find it irrational that people are losing their shit over it.

I just finished Yakuza 5. Gameplay wise its as fun as the others, and had some interesting unique elements, but story wise its probably the weakest Yakuza game that I've played (and I only have one game left in the main series to play, Yakuza 6). I own Y6, but I'm going to play a different game now to avoid burn out, since I just spent 62 hours playing Yakuza 5.

And then the spinoff?

No, you're right, it shouldn't happen, and unfortunately it's happened more than once. You can see that there'd be a growing distrust. A title is announced for a wide array of storefronts, but somewhere along the way an exclusivity deal forces them to reneg on those previous announcements. Consequently, for a developer that already has a high visibility such as Remedy, or Obsidian, it's likely not going to matter all that much as long as they get the money.

I don't hate them. Hate is too strong a word. They are what they are, operating with what I feel are underhanded practices, and it's something I find not being able to morally support. It's the kind of thing that hurts the industry.
