Yes to Mayday Parker. A resounding no to more Tobey Maguire.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I liked it. Even more than some MCU movies.

Yes, people liking a movie is a really, really bad thing. Like, even worse than them just watching it.

Yeah, despite my optimism about a potential Jackpot movie, she is really, really bizarre choice for a movie lead, when they have characters like Silk, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman (maybe) at their disposal. I know Silk isn't real well know outside of comic readers, but she's at least a more prominent character than Jackpot.

Personally I've never heard of 'Jackpot', but that doesn't colour my expectations one way or the other. I mean there's no shortage of awful movies made about popular well known characters, and there's more than a few examples of someone taking something obscure and making something special out of it. 'Heart of Ice' certainly leaps to mind.
Indeed in some ways a movie made about an obscure character has the better chance of being good. Fewer expectations, more latitude for interpretation and potentially fewer cooks in the kitchen.

I'm not expecting it to blow my hair back or anything, but I'm willing to git it a chance. At least wait until the trailer to get a sense of where they're going with it, I mean just from the blurb a "single mother super hero" certainly sounds like an unique take.

I finally got around to watching it just a few months back. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but also nothing particularly special. Feels like a throwback to the early 2000's superhero movies, playing lip service at being an anti-hero movie. For what it's worth I'll probably never watch it again but I may check out the sequel.

ETA: I don't know why this only just occurred to me, but the 'Venom' movie's approach to the main character(s) is *very* similar to the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle; a non-confrontational person physically bonded to an alien bio-mechanical weapon with a mind of it's own and a much more bloody mindset at that. I don't know which character in the comics did that personality interplay first but I suspect Blue Beetle. From what little I've seen of old Venom comics, he was originally much more of a straight up monster with the symbiote and host very much in sync with what they want.

I'd be up for a Nic Cage Spider-Man Noir.

So can someone let me know....does have to do a SPIDER MAN movie every so often or can any number of characters count for them to keep the film rights?

Apparently Sony's license is perpetual provided they do a movie every 5 years and 9 months. I'm not sure if it has to be a Spider-Man movie or if it can be one of the ancillary characters to reset (so I guess I didn't really answer the question....oops).

On the one hand, Joaquim Dos Santos is a fantastic animation director, so I'm pleased to see him doing the sequel. On the other hand, I'm disappointed the original directors aren't returning, because they gave the film such a unique style and voice that would be next to impossible for anyone else to match.

That's not a name I expected to see on that side of the camera for a superhero movie. I haven't seen it, but I know Booksmart was supposed to be really good, so hopefully she can bring that same quality to her superhero movie.

My guess is it'll be Spider-Gwen rather than Jessica Drew.

I thought Gwen was going by Ghost Spider these days (which is cool, though it sounds like she should be connected to Ghost Rider somehow).
