The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

That computer is a little radio, isn't it? I think I used to have one just like it! :)
Yes, it is! I bought it many many years ago for my brother. The screen is the speaker and the mouse is for switching channels.
Someone asked me about it and I went to ebay where they still sell a few. And while I was there I saw the Enterprise radio and now I don't know what to do with that information!

You could get a "Bailey", he could sit there, face like fizz, moaning like fuck at every command from the chair
Or reprimanding Sulu for his countdown

So cool! *confesses Chekhov would probably have slipped my mind too lol.

Until you get Chekov, just pretend it's the first season.

Yeah, that's the reason. With him coming late, he never really clicked with me. Poor Pavel.

That's a great idea! Maybe I can find a head that looks like him and switch it.

Want a real challenge, you could always look around for Arex.

Now THAT would be awesome. But I don't think my sculpting / customizing skills are up for that.

But I found a substitute now! Thank you very much for the suggestion!

Much better, isn't it?
I pimped the 7" biobed as the red was a bit too dark from what we saw on screen. I had a sheet left over from when I scratchbuilt a biobed in 1:6 scale and it was just the right size. The golden squares should be smaller in this smaller scale but who cares. I even managed to make a pillow out of a small leftover. Nothing gets thrown away here!

I also removed the red stripe from the headboard.

Back during the earliest days of the line, when they were still known as "Art Asylum", I used their message board inquiring if they might ever release an Arex and/or (especially) M'Ress. Of course, I knew the answer; polite as it was, it mounted to a "no", but I felt compelled to ask. Now, there's an artist on Deviant Art who customized both a PlayMates 5 inch figure and an Art Asylum/Diamond Select 7 inch Uhura to sculpt rather nifty M'Ress figures, but I wanted the companies to do them so I could purchase one!

Well, at least I eventually got the Hallmark hanging ornament figurines (as Arex came with M'Ress). Frankly after all these decades, it blew my mind M'Ress would EVER get any official merchandise!

Oh, BTW, a vast improvement upon the diagnostic bed! When and where were those things released?

Thank you!
Yeah, I'm of the opinion that I have to make the things myself that I can't buy - many people in East Germany did, we all were little MacGyvers back then - but sculpting a new face is way beyond me as well. I'm glad that you got at least something with the Hallmark ornament!

I'm in the same boat now, I have recently started to watch Voyager for the first time of my life and am enjoying myself immensely, but I do prefer the 7" Art Asylum / Diamond Select Toys figures, but they never made Voyager. I don't really like the smaller Playmates ones and don't want to start to collect yet another scale. So far I have resisted. That might change if the Voyager bridge becomes available again ;)

I got both biobed and bridge console here:

These are 3D printed and hand painted. Seems at the moment there is only 4,5" stuff but have a look, maybe there is something for you! They also have real size props for cosplayers.

Two new acquisitions:

Captain's log, Stardate 48734.2.
Lieutenant Tuvok returned from a reconnaissance shuttle trip but Commander Chakotay did not return with him. He's MIA. I'm ordering a rescue mission but it's difficult if you have no idea where to look for him in the first place.

Doctor Who fans have begged for them for years, , but after all this time many had abandoned realistic hope that Character Options would ever release a "classic" era Sarah Jane Smith (a version based Liz Sladen's look in her final days had already been made) or Romana (whether played by Mary Tamm or Lalla Ward). So it blew my mind when the rumors were proven true at the start of the week.

All THREE (3) will be released in June (supposedly)!

Sarah, Romana(s) and U.N.I.T.'s Yates and Benton as action figures

Yup, even more amazing, Captain Yates and Sgt. Benton, two recurring characters from U.N.I.T. during the Jon Pertwee run will get their portraits in plastic!

They even dressed Lalla Ward's figure in one of my two favorite costumes she wore, the "Tom Baker homage...in pink" from "Destiny of the Daleks". My other favorite was her sharp "fox hunting" ensemble from "The Horns of Nimon" (arguably the best part of that story). Tamm's Romana is dressed as she appeared in "The Pirate Planet" and Sarah appears as she did in "Revenge of the Cybermen". Why these outfits? At this point to justify the sculpt of an all new head, Character Options tries to recycle parts from other figures in the same scale, some under the DW license, others from the Primeval range. Ironically, Tamm's figure uses body parts from "The Sarah Jane Adventures" range. (Four different versions of Sarah were made for that line.) Yates and Benton are dressed the same, using parts from an earlier release of the Brigadier, "disguised" a bit by the inclusion of utility pouches.

If they won't be officially distributed within the U.S., I hope that Keith who runs "Who North America" will continue his current strategy, personally hiring someone to purchase some stock in the UK and then ship them Stateside to be offered in his store. That's how I got harry Sullivan, Bill Potts, Whittaker's Doctor and the last major version of Capaldi with the more accurate face sculpt. (The chain that features these sets, B&M, doesn't even have an online store, let alone shipping items across the ocean.)

*^Your still shots are very well arranged- do you ever do sequences to tell short vignettes?

Me? Yeah, sometimes I do little comic stories, but not in the way like an episode would go. I like to show them more in their off times, private, having fun. I love to add a little humor, or crossover with other fandoms. I'm not good with action scenes.

If you want to check out my stuff, here is my page with all stories (both in 7" and 12" scale) linked: https://dieastra.livejournal.com/141174.html

Here's one I did, a missing scene from the first Star Trek movie. In the audio comment they said that there was supposed to be a scene with Kirk getting Bones, who was treating wildcats in a park and didn't want to come.

Sometimes I'm just recreating scenes, like Kirk woodchopping in the Nexus:

Or the famous camp fire scene:

I also take travel shots:

But mostly it's just fun stuff ;)

Those are wonderful! Your live journal looks great- will have to visit when I’ve got time to gawk at leisure!:adore:

eta: spelling. Predictive text is bonkers.

So it turns out, I DO own a Chekov after all...

There's also links to other shows like Gotham, The Orville, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Stargate SG-1, Arrow, Sherlock, X-Files, Spiderman, Wolverine... if you should get bored ;)

Great pics

Thank you! Many should be posted in this thread if you go back but it's possible they have been eaten by Photobucket so if nobody minds seeing some old ones I can repost some highlights.

This is the very first photostory I did, after having watched the movie where Kirk needed glasses to read the book Spock gave him. I only intended it to be a picture of Kirk reading, but then someone noticed that this is the Book of Origin from Stargate SG-1 and that I had more items in the book case, and so this little sequel with all of them wanting their stuff back happened.

No, that's actually wrong, THIS is the very first photo I ever did. My first figure set came with the console.

And then I recreated this scene:

This is the Spock from the Select pack that comes with the Horta. Those figures have no joints but instead different leg poses you can plug in. I love what a natural kneeling position this gives, you would never achieve this with a simple knee joint (the Star Trek figures do not have double joints yet)

And while I was at it I let him try some bows from the Arrow universe:

:rommie:Poor Chekhov lol.

Your photo-story is great! I imagine a great deal of effort goes into each shot! I’ve tried it with barbies (got a bunch of the Star Trek versions) and never been quite satisfied.

Thank you! Yeah, it is a struggle sometimes, when they tend to fall over. Then one takes the next with him, like dominos. Or they keep losing the props I put into their hands.
I guess with Barbies it's even more difficult as they are so stiff. Or are they of the new ones that have elbow joints?

Here's McCoy and the Horta - and a little twist! I went to set up this scene, looking for a prop when I found those copper balls that I had bought some weeks prior for no particular reason. They served well as the eggs of the Horta.

The next one I did for Black Friday shopping. I saw a picture of people fighting for something that inspired me.
