Spoilers Season 3 episode names!

The sensible thing to do would have been to use the red matter to destroy the sun there and then (assuming there was no other way and he didn't do it in the 25 year gap) before going after Vulcan and Earth... Nero wasn't sensible though, he was just out for revenge.

On the other hand, he did yell at Pike that he prevented genocide.

Since he did this some time after gaining access to red matter, he might well have saved Romulus before launching on his revenge spree. Assuming, that is, that Romulus could be saved with red matter, although the specifics of that still evade us.

Assuming the whole Hobus thing was unavoidable then Romulas is probably toast in whatever timeline.

It probably wasn't "obviously unavoidable", but more like climate change, so that all sorts of "supernova-critical" voices could dismiss the threat till the last second. Both the 2009 movie and PIC imply such denialism, after all. Or at least dismissal of a specific hero effort, even though people who truly believe they are going to fry should be very happy with a belt-and-suspenders approach.

But there's no "Hobus thing" in either the 2009 movie or the PIC episodes: the latter simply says that "the Romulan star" blew, supposedly establishing that it was the homesun of Romulus. Applying red matter to that a century before the kaboom might not be healthy. And if red matter were available to assorted villains, then any planet that cannot shoot down a lumbering mining rig whose drill is sensitive to handguns is at risk of disappearing into a black hole. Including, quite possibly, Vulcan again.

Original series and the Next Generation did "The Naked Time" and "The Naked Now".

And we have TOS "Wink of an Eye" and VOY "Blink of an Eye", the latter changed at the last minute. Plus, of course, TNG "The Emissary" and DS9 "Emissary", and TAS "The Eye of the Beholder" and TNG "Eye of the Beholder".

FWIW, Nero says "No, I'm preventing genocide!", in the present progressive. Implying that by destroying Federation worlds he saves the Romulans.

I think Spock Prime would've found a way to let the Romulans and the Federation know about Supernova. It would give the Kelvin Timeline a 129-year head-start instead of
just six.

And TNG First Contact and MOV First Contact

In the Jonathan Frakes interview in that other thread he talks about a reunification of Discovery characters happening this season. At first I thought that is going to be "Unification III" but then he says it is in the third episode which he directed. And the "III" part wouldn't make sense if it's just Discovery characters. Got to be a reference to TNG Unification episodes.

A big sign for me that 'Unification III' is going to be a continuation of the reunification story line is that Kristen Beyer is writing it. It's pretty much Beyers thing to take stories that were seemingly concluded and expand on them in wild new directions, as evidenced by the Voyager novels. The novel 'Protectors' for example is a continuation of the episode 'Twisted'. The novel 'A pocket full of lies' continues both 'Year of Hell' and 'Shattered'. I can imagine Beyer watching Unification while researchign for Picard and being like 'Hey, what if the reunification of Vulcans and Romulans still hadn't happened by the 32nd century and unifying them was integral to rebuilding the Federation?'

That makes sense.
Given that we jump many centuries into the future from where the Unification movement we saw on screen left off, I expect them to show a successful reunification, for dramatic reasons. The Vulcans may have pulled out of the floundering Federation.

Does the release of all these titles mean we could be getting a premiere somewhat soonish? With the first two seasons and with Picard, the episode titles weren't announced until less than a month prior to airdate, and now for Disco season 3 we have the titles for the first ten episodes before we even have a premiere date.

Maybe they'll split the season in half...

But if they want to record the music with an orchestra, than this can only be done after the restrictions regarding Covid-19 are lifted and that will take time...

I'll take a half-season over no season for a while. It's now been over a year.

I was hoping that immediately after Picard Season 1, they'd be able to roll out Discovery Season 3. Strike while the iron is hot. Too bad.

As far as I know they've yet to record the soundtrack.

When was Comicon meant to be? That's when we'll probably get a trailer and info.

Heather Kadin said some months ago that both shows (meaning Discovery and Lower Decks) 'should be ready by May', but she didn't know if CBS All Access was planning to air Discovery first or Lower Decks. Kurtzman has also said that there would be some time between the different shows, probably meaning some weeks or one or two months. In that case, I think Discovery (or Lower Decks) was planned to start airing in May, but now... Not so sure. Could be after the summer.

Sidebar: Wondering if Lower Decks is also going to be on CTV Sci-Fi.

If they were still working on the ships for the last PIC episode just before it came out, I guess not a lot is done for Disco S3 and they'll have to finish the SFX from home

Not to be negative, as I love Discovery, but how sure are we that these titles are real? If they're real, then the production is taking a very different approach to naming than in Seasons 1 and 2, and not necessarily one that works for me. That premiere title in particular sounds really lazy to my ear, and nothing here inspires my curiosity the way a title like "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" or "Such Sweet Sorrow" did. The writers loaded nearly every title of the first 29 episodes with literary references; what happened?

I can't help thinking that these sound like the titles someone who's faking titles would come up with.

That said, if they're real, Unification III is almost certainly a place, as the Roman numerals and lack of a "Part" differ from even the multi-part episodes listed here. That doesn't mean it isn't a callback to Unification (surely, it is), but I wouldn't be shocked if they visit the third place of the Unification system, where folks are trying to put together a new Federation or something.
