MLB Pseudo-Season 2020: Roger, Dodgers

There is some idle speculation that Alex Cora will come back to the Sox next year but I have to wonder if Chaim Bloom will want to hire his own guy, whoever that is.

Red Sox removed the "interim" tag on Wednesday, but Roenickle is still only signed for 2020. So manager of a lost season at this point.

Yeah, it would have been a lost season for Boston even without COVID-19; with both Sale and Price on the shelf, they project to have one of the worst rotations in all of baseball, and JD Martinez's knees aren't getting any less creaky. And no one would have looked at Roenicke's work in Milwaukee and said, "I got to get me some of that."

I think all the fired managers will eventually get another job because it helps make the scandal look less relevant to the public. If someone hires them then it sends the message it was really no big deal in the end. Everything is back to normal. If they don't get a job then your left wondering. My God what did they do that they don't even get a second chance.

Perhaps but you could say the same thing about Terry Francona before he went to the Sox so that may not be a fair critique of Roenicke

Or Belichick with the Browns vs. Pats. Sometimes it’s just not the right fit, or management is interfering, don’t mesh with the players right, or learn something from a failed experience. Diminishing returns the more you cycle people, but a retread doesn’t always guarantee same results

The last few days I've seen these MLB The Show 20 "live games" popping up on YouTube.

Are these simulations of real games that have previously been played, or are they supposed to be "all new"?

Also, is there some reason they can't use the real name of the Braves' ballpark? In reality it's SunTrust Park, but the game I'm watching now (Mets/Braves) calls it "Truist Park".

Probably licensing. The game may or may not have the rights, or it may not have the rights to use the name in the fashion of a YouTube broadcast.

And yet the simulated games taking place at Citi Field had no problem using THAT name...

It would appear that these games are indeed simulated, i.e. they were never actually played "live". The game I just saw was a Mets victory over the Braves, 15-5. I don't remember any game like that from last season (confirmed - I just checked the 2019 schedule, and there was no Mets/Braves game that ended that way).

If that's the case, these simulations are very convincing...not only do they have full commentary tracks, but also ump calls, fan noise, interviews, the whole thing.

And I do find it very amusing that while the "Show" games do show Braves fans doing the chop, we don't hear the chant.

Rob Manfred seems bound and determined to destroy baseball. No American and National League!! I am guessing they will try and make the DH permanent as well.

That was going to happen soon, regardless of the pandemic. No one wants to send a pitcher making twenty to thirty million dollars a year into the batter’s box.

Finally!! Schwarber as the Cubs DH. Not that he hasn't made some strides in left field, but he's still an ox.

Unless they're going to practice social distancing in the stands (i.e., staggered seating, only allowing ballparks to reach 25-33% capacity) — and even then, what happens when people have to use the bathroom? Go stand in line for concessions? — it's better to at least play the games so they're getting the TV revenue. And if allowing fans to attend games could open MLB to lawsuits if an new outbreak were to be traced to people attending a game together, I'm sure MLB doesn't want that hanging over their heads, either.

Not only is MLB going to use the current crisis to push their plan to obliterate the minors, looks like geographic realignment will be used in a shortened season.

Can't wait for MLB to say next year "Everybody loved the new divisions, it is now permanent"

NO GODDAMMIT IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THE CUBS GET TO HAVE CHRISTIAN YELICH STICK A SCREWDRIVER UP THEIR ASS I REFUSE TO LET THEM HAVE TO PLAY IN THE SAME DIVISION AS MINNESOTA
