It always grates for me when I hear someone say "tozz" or "toss" instead of "tee-oh-ess." I've never heard "ting," only "tee-en-gee," (I don't talk about the animated series for it to even come up, though I'd probably be very confused if someone started talking about "tass") and for the others you listed, people just say the full word. Thankfully, we've all been spared "dessen," but that's probably because they use an abbreviation on the show.

It’s also the abbreviation that’s used on Archive of Our Own, which is why I’m most familiar with it.

Thank you @Avro Arrow for organising the poll. Sorry I've been a little absent, I tend to withdraw from everything when real-life bothers me - well not everything, I'm currently doing a deep dive into fanfic for Stardew Valley, thank the lord for AO3!

The two designators that I like are currently in the lead on the voting, so I'm happy about that :) Don't let this bit of democracy go to your heads though - still a benign dictatorship round here :lol::mallory:

There's also LE for Lost Era, TP for Typhon Pact, I think I've seen TF for The Fall, MU for Mirror Universe.
People actually do that? I've always just heard people say the letters, Tee Oh Ess, Tee En Gee, ect.

I wouldn't use any of those abbreviations.

Just stick with JJverse or Kelvinverse (or even just Kelvin). Much less awkward.

What I don't like about both frontrunners is that KEL and KLV are more abbreviations for "Kelvin" than "Kelvin timeline." Oddly the defining characteristic of the Kelvin timeline is that it has no Kelvin in it!

But Kelvin is a film series originally, and all the onscreen series have had 3-letter subtitle abbreviations.

I don't think the "timeline" part is required. It's not like The Kelvin Timeline is its actual onscreen subtitle or something, it's just a convenient identifier. So I'm fine with just calling it "Kelvin" or whatever.

Funny you should mention that. I remember the first time I heard a YouTube video where someone referred to "tee-oh-ess". My immediate thought was, "What? Who actually says it like *that*!?"

Turns out the answer is... pretty much everyone.

Occupational hazard, I guess. Whenever we implement a new system, we try, if possible, to give it a name where the abbreviation can be said as just a word. So whenever I read an abbreviation that looks like it could be a word, I tend to pronounce it as one. :)

For a long time my family always called the Men In Black movies aka the MIB movie, Mib, but then I realized they only ever call it Em-Eye-Bee in the stuff related to it, so I stopped and just refer to it by the letters now.

I stopped using MU for Mirror Universe, as that got confusing with Myriad Universes, so now I use MiU for Mirror Universe and MyU for Myriad Universes.

We've got ST for the canon Short Treks, so it doesn't have to be 3 letters.

I've always used MU for Mirror and MyrU for Myriad.

KT has always come naturally to me, so just add N for novels or timeline, however you want to look at it, but a two-letter acronym is also fine, eg. ST (2009), what else? It’s not going to be STXI.

”KEL” doesn’t work officially because it doesn’t abbreviate a single word like Picard or Enterprise.

Well, it was a close vote, but it looks like KEL came out on top!

I have updated the title for the review thread for The Unsettling Stars accordingly. (I was unable to update the other "ALT" in the poll question, though. @trampledamage , would it be possible for you to update that, please?)

Thank you to everyone who took part in this little poll! :)

For what it's worth, I've just learned the official abbreviation for Voyager is VGR. I've been calling it VOY all this time.

OK, I've always seen it both ways, and I was never sure which was one the official one.

This suggest the possibility of future shows / movies to include:

KT-TNG - Kelvin Timeline - The Next Generation
KT-DS9 - Kelvin Timeline - Deep Space Nine
KT-VOY - Kelvin Timeline - Star Trek: Voyager

Do we REALLY want any of those??

Hmmmm ... I wonder what will happen to the Enterprise-C in the Kelvin Timeline.
