What were Star Trek video games like from the golden age of video gaming? I'm on retro Star Trek kick. I finished up watching the TOS films within the last year, I'm trying to track down the DC Comics that were published in the 80s and 90s, and now I'm interested in what the video games from back in the day were like.
My only experience with Star Trek video games was seeing reviews on the TNG game for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. And my uncle had a Vectrex system with a Star Trek game that required a transparency to be put over the screen in order to give the game added "graphics."
Unlike Star Wars, it seems like they didn't make video games for each TOS movie installment, which is surprising to me.
Anyone have memories of these old games? Did you have any favorites?

I tried to type the Super Star Trek game from the BASIC Computer Games book into my old Amstrad CPC, but never got it running properly. The first ones I actually played were the 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites. I got them again from gog.com this winter and apart from the rather chunky graphics, they haven't aged a bit.

I remember reading reviews of ST games but never got to play them, such as the Rebel Universe, the ST5: TFF game that consisted of small mini-games based on the movie, and text adventures such as the Kobayashi Alternative that was written by Diane Duane. I suppose they can still be found on abandonware sites.

I'm looking at the graphics for the Anniversary game. They look pretty good still!
And apparently there was a Star Trek movie game that was going to be made for the Atari, The Wrath of Khan, but the video game crash happened in '83 and Sega abandoned it.

I had the TNG game for SNES. It was fairly bad, but the ship computer was a great reference.

I played the original version around 1980 - DEC printer terminal connected to a $7 Million mainframe timeshare through a 150 baud audio-coupler modem... Even had a printout of the basic code for it (long lost).

That sounds like it was a lot of fun, actually. I'm sure I would have really enjoyed it. :techman:

It kinda was but, you have to request the long-range scan...wait and wait. See the literal printout, and then determine where you need to go. Estimate your course and speed to warp to the correct sector. Then, request a short-range scan and ... wait and wait. Look at the print out and then either engage a Klingon or dock with...

It could get a bit tedious but, when you're 16-17 years old..? It was fun, at the time!

Not a actual Star Trek game but it was as close to one as i saw back in 1985, StarFleet 1 The war begins on the Atari St, amazing game that felt like a actual Star Trek game........ and two years later we got this.....

...and i still have my boxed Atari St version with sew on badge to this day.......and only 30 year later we went from that to this....

I used to play the heck out of a game called Star Fleet I: The War Begins that was pretty obviously a Trek game with the serial numbers scratched off to get by without the licensing. The bad guys were the Krellans (Klingons) and Zaldrons (Romulans) and it played kinda like Battleship. Great music. MIDI, but that was the times.

I loved Tobias Richter's old Star Trek shareware game for the Amiga 500. I spent so many hours on that thing, I'd even list the friendly ships encountered and their NCC's:lol:

I once destroyed the USS Trump in Birth of the Federation - they had very funny ship names

Which game was that, and was it ever ported to windows?

    I enjoyed that too.

    @Ronald Held
Think it was just called Star Trek The Game and I'm not aware of any ports.

I seem to remember an old game at Eastwood Mall where blueprints simply were blown up so as to present a target—1970’s vintage.
