. But I don't want to see Villeneuve ape Lynch.
I'm thinking they'll probably write Dune like that for anything in this version of the universe, and then use a different style for any subtitles they go with.I want to see them write Dune Messiah in that font.
It looks good but I already know the inevitably not fitting sequel spine on my BD shelf will annoy me.

Reminds me of Moebius (or mayhaps other artists from Heavy Metal magazine in the 70's).

I could see the teaser just be this, tenet style. Otherwise I'd like the thumping to be the background to a chant, Dark Knight Rises style, Fremen chanting for Muad'dib, or Mahdi, or the Fedaykin chant. And not the slow, ponderous Mini style chant where they just seem bored. I want religious fever, damnit!

My vote is for fake. The thumper is exactly like the ones from Lynch's Dune, and I highly doubt the new movie doesn't feature a new design.
But hands up, who was expecting a worm to break the surface at the end?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is real. Teasers are just that; intended to tease. Though the line between teaser and trailer has gotten blurry over the years, way back when your average teaser often didn't show any actual footage from the movie. Sometimes just a logo, maybe some b-roll or a few quick shots from the dailies against a temp track and/or voice over, sometimes entirely unique footage shot especially for promotional purposes with no intention of using it in the movie.
And since these days such things are usually handed by a marketing firm rather than the production itself, it's not unheard of for the footage of the type seen in that possible Dune teaser to have been outsourced to some smaller VFX company, who wouldn't necessarily have access to production materials; which is a long winded way of saying that the fact that the thumper design looks VERY familiar doesn't necessarily mean anything one way or the other. So, it's plausible. We'll see.
I guess it's also possible Villeneuve is deliberately referencing some design elements from the Lynch movie...but I doubt it.
