News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

Some people prefer to buy things than just subscribe to these countless subscription services. I’m like that.
Also, if the Internet is down/slow then no viewing/buffering hell.
They also pulling things and are no longer available.

What are they pulling?
General statement. I don't know of anything specific for Disney+, but here's a list of programs/movies that Netflix pulled in March:
The L Word
Being Mary Jane
A Wrinkle in Time
Black Panther
Men In Black
(1 & 2)
Wild Wild West
Lord of the Rings
Coraline
Blue Jasmine
Eat PRay Love
Zodiac
Paranormal Activity
Death at a Funeral
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
Charlie's Angles
Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle
Kill Bill
(1 & 2)
The Men Who Stare at Goats
F the Prom
The Jane Austen Book Club
The Waterboy
Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection: Classic, Collection 3
Drugs, Inc
(Season 5)
New York Minute
Hairspray
P.S. I Love You
Small Soldiers
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I found out recently the hard way that Amazon Prime pulled Doctor Who. Disney might be more immune to it as I'm sure they own a lot of their content.

That's why a lot of stuff is being pulled off other services--it's being reclaimed by Disney, Warner Brothers (for HBOMax), NBCUniversal (for Peacock), etc.

Here's the list of movies that left Disney+ today:
-Dan in Real Life
-Never Been Kissed
-The Pacifier
-Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
-The Sandlot 2
-While You Were Sleeping

Presumably most of these will be back in a few months or a few years or whenever Disney is allowed to legally show them again.

But to make up for that, here's a list of movies added to Disney+ today:
-Dr Dolittle
-Frankenweenie
-The Last Song
-Mars Needs Moms
-The Odd Life of Timothy Green
-Prom

With a whole lot more to come on Friday of course.

Yeah, that surprised me. I had heard the new seasons were going to be on HBO Max, but I had thought they would at least leave the past seasons on Amazon Prime.
Why isn’t Futurama on it? That surprises me
It's on Hulu. I'm more surprised that The Simpsons is on Disney+ rather than Hulu.

In the UK then, since Hulu isn’t a thing here.
I imagine the Simpsons was the main selling factor for this service. That’s probably why.

Nah, the main selling point was the Star Wars and Marvel shows, The Simpsons was announced as part of it quite a while after the other stuff.

I think Simpsons has a bigger appeal than Star Wars and Marvel; with the sheer amount of episodes they have in it. All the Star Wars and marvel movies is good but you can get those easily from other sources. The Mandalorian is good but that was only 8 episodes.
It’s certainly the thing they focus on in the UK. I especially like the ad they show where they show a Star Wars and/or a Marvel clip, and then show the equivalent clip from the Simpsons.

Oh it was a big deal, but the main draw for these kinds of thing is the always the exclusives, the stuff that you can't see anywhere else. The emphasis in most of the stuff I saw was almost always on the fact that it was going to have new exclusive Marvel and Star Wars show.

Hadn't even considered The Simpsons as a draw. I just thought it was filler to boost the content.

Disney movies, Star Wars and Marvel seem to be the appeal for everyone I know.

Huge pile of new stuff dropped this week (US version), highlighted by Onward, new episode of Clone Wars, the DisneyNature Elephant, Dolphin, and Penguin movies, plus behind the scenes for all 3, the season finale of Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, The Straight Story, and even Frankenweenie and Sonny With a Chance. Plus tons more:

No sign of Disney Insider though.

here's the video promoting everything coming in April

I'm going to guess that they pulled Disney Insider because it's full of segments promoting theme parks and movies and attractions and other stuff that is currently on hold.

A strange complaint, since Onward wasn't supposed to be on D+ until November or so. It's not like they pushed it back, they just didn't push it forward. Yet. Though with the announcement that Onward is coming to the Australia/New Zealand version of D+ on April 24, it seems unlikely that it would show up any earlier than that in Europe.
