News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

What’s the point of that? Just release them all now since they have been basically been spoiled online already. It’s not like Disney Plus is the only place to watch them as well.

While it's unfortunate that movie theaters are taking a hit because of what's going on, I'm excited to see Onward on D+ so soon.

Here's the currently expected list of stuff for April (US version of course). For some reason Disney didn't include Disney Insider on their April schedule, but there are supposed to be 24 episodes, so I'm assuming it's coming out weekly.

Lots of nature stuff showing up in April, I think Natalie Portman is narrating the dolphin movie.

As usual, expect a few changes. And as usual, I've hidden it behind a spoiler tag just because it's a long list.

What’s the point of that?
The assumption I've seen from most folks is that Disney doesn't want people to sign up for a 7-day free trial and then binge The Mandalorian and cancel. (Are they even doing the free trial offer in Europe?)

And while I'm sure that trying to keep people signed up and watching for longer is the main reason, I kind of think they don't want people to get in the habit of bingeing Disney+ original shows either.

What's the point of selling Onward for $20 VOD when you can get three months of Disney+ for that cost? I don't get that.

They are allowing people to pre order at £49.99 for a year instead of £59.99.
Just seems like a bad idea. They should synch it up with the American service as soon as it’s out. I suppose you could just use a VPN but that can be tedious on some platforms.

Some people prefer to buy things than just subscribe to these countless subscription services. I’m like that.

I'm like that too, but you can get a week of Disney+ for free. Watch Onward. Then in the future if you want to watch it again pay $7, you can watch it 4 times for $20.

^ They know that not everyone will want to subscribe to a pay tv/streaming service. The $20 price targets the people who never will sign up. Mo money, mo money, mo money...

Disney Plus seems to be working for me in the UK now. Might be because it’s on a American Roku device. I can confirm that only two episodes of Mando and Clone Wars are on it. That’s annoying

I haven't been watching much Disney Plus but my kids have. We did watch Frozen 2 tonight. I was really not impressed with the story--my son guessed one of the "twist"s five minutes into the movie--but the songs were enjoyable.

My mom and I saw Onward the weekend it came out and we both really enjoyed it, if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

Our plans to see it were cut short by COVID19 so we are pretty happy it is coming to Disney Plus so soon.

Got to watch live action Alladin with my family, after they saw it in theaters. As someone who grew up and had the original animated film memorized, I was blown away by how fun it was, how more invested in the characters I was and overall excellent work.

Yeah, I didn't a chance to see the live action Aladdin in theaters, so I ended up watching it on Disney+ right after they added, and I was shocked just how much I ended up enjoying.

I too liked Aladdin, but I wasn't a fan of Jafar. He seemed more like a petulant child here than in the animated version.

Making Jasmine the Sultan was a bit much I thought. Plus it takes away the fun of teaching Aladdin the role in future films.

This week's list of new stuff (US version)

The Wicked Tuna that was supposed to show up a few weeks ago finally showed up.

Haven't watched it, but it looks like this week's Disney Insider has segments on Diary of a Future President, Mulan, and the Walt Disney Animation vault.

Late addition to the schedule, coming next Friday:

EUC0dXLVAAYpo6Y

Also the "making of" companion piece, In the Footsteps of Elephants. Part of the large nature/Earth Day push from D+ in April.

Meanwhile, for the folks in Spain/Germany/UK, looks like you're all caught up on One Day at Disney, Shop Class, Disney Family Sundays, and of course the brand new Disney Insider and Be Our Chef. And you're getting the second episode of all the other D+ original shows, excluding the Star Wars ones, which are on a different schedule. (Should be the 3rd ep of Mandalorian and both the 3rd and 4th ep of the new Clone Wars.)
