What species was Bjayzl?

Bjayzl definitely looks like Deanna Troi, so its reasonable to think she is from Betazed and possibly even related to Troi. I wonder if that casting was deliberate. Like Byjazl was intended to be Troi instead as some bizarre fan fiction, which makes absolutely no sense, so they created the Bjayzl character instead.

However, the writers initially wanted Bjayzl to be Caitian.

Its possible that she cosmetically alerted herself. There are Caitians with skin in Into Darkness, even though Caitans are supposed to have fur like their cousins, the Kzinti. We don’t know much about Caitians to verify though if they are into cosmetic alterations or not.

I think she is supposed to be human or we aren't supposed to care. She is mist now, so I doubt we get a definitive answer unless somebody asks Chabon on instagram.

It does seem to lend credence to her not being human.

How would a human wind up with a name like that?
Mommy and Daddy? In a Galactic culture, names aren't going to be limited to the planet the species originated on. Look at current day Earth. Are people required to give their children names from their own ethnic/cultural background?

And they’re going to be even more so in the centuries hence.

A lot of babies born 9 months from now will probably be named Covid.

Last names tend to come from something specific. My earliest Bradley ancestors were named after the north of England where they lived and earlier ruled. Broad lea.

She can't be Betazoid, because her eyes aren't black enough, so based on her appearance, she could be any one of the following species (shown sometimes to be indistinguishable from humans):
  • Aldean
  • Ardanan
  • Argelian
  • Capellan
  • Dinaali
  • Ekosian
  • El-Aurian
  • Elasian
  • Gideon
  • Human
  • Iotian
  • Klingon
  • Mari
  • Nyrian
  • Scalosian
  • Serosian
  • Sikarian
  • Takarian
  • Tarellian
  • Varro
  • Vori
  • Yaderan
  • Zeon

Why? They have nothing in common.

Actually, when I was still wondering if we were seeing an undercover Troi (from 13 years ago), Bjayzl suddenly mentioned the Tal Shiar - and Deanna Troi had once portrayed a member of the Tal Shiar in a Romulan sting.

I had to look up IMBd before much further into the episode.
