Spoilers Star Trek Picard Season 2 Hopes and Predictions

People seem really opposed to a Q appearance, which is crazy to me because de Lancie is bonkers awesome in the role.
"Goodbye, Jean-Luc. You had such potential. But then, all good things must come to an end."

All Good Things is one of the best send offs for Q and really TNG. I don't see bringing Q back as additive in anyway.

So, naturally, Q will show up...

It was only his TNG sendoff though. He still appeared in Voyager. He should get a proper final appearance, not the episode Q2.

Respectfully, I disagree. No character needs a "proper send off" by my accounting.

Yes, its an unpopular opinion. No, I don't see it changing any time soon.

Right. AGT would indeed have been a proper sendoff for Q. But VOY happened, so now PIC must fix what once went wrong.
No, thank you. AGT is a decent enough send off for those who want such a thing. Having him appear in Picard after that feels tacked on, at best.

I get it. Q is a fan favorite. But, there has not been a story reason to have him appear.

Well, right. It would have to be organic. Even a tiny cameo at the end would be nice. Maybe every character doesn't need a sendoff, but Q's a bookend. He's as integral to Picard's character as Data was. And honestly, if Spiner deserved what he got, de Lancie deserves it too.

But I admit, it'd be fanwanky as hell.

Spiner didn't deserve it. It just happened to work in the story but I would have been just as satisfied without. Q had his bookend with Picard. There is no need for it from a story or character point of view.

It is the epitome of fanwank. So, as I said, it will likely be done.

The only reason I think TNG actors 'deserve' a guest shot on PIC is because they've been putting in the convention appearances for years. And since the last movie was such a bust (and because it came out almost 20 years ago), I think these people are owed a nice victory lap. Is there a need for it from a story or character POV? Probably not. But story and character POV's are what the writers make of them. They just need to make it so, and engage, or whatever.

I was obviously not a fan of Kylo Ren's "kill the past if you have to" speech.

We were never given an explanation why did the Artifact lost contact w/other Borg cubes, then lost power and got taken by the Romulans.
We did get an explanation for that, you know: it was because Ramdha was assimilated, and her Admonition-shattered psyche broke the Cube. Might seem unlikely, but Cubes have been spat out of the Collective for less in Trek history - heck, Hugh's Cube was cut loose just because Hugh returned to the Collective with memories of individuality.

I agree, though, that just a few more episodes per season would allow the characters room to breathe and grow, which they didn't really get this season.

Here's the thing-make it actually work. Don't tell me that something "deserves" something in fiction. No, it doesn't. No one forced them to do conventions, etc.

Tell a story, have it make sense and be entertaining. But, they are owed nothing, in my humble estimation. They did a great job with telling a lot of stories over the years and I was entertained by it (mostly...). That's all that can be reasonably expected.

It's just a sentimental feeling on my part. If cameos don't fit into the story, so be it. But I would hate if they didn't purposefully avoided TNG crew just out of obtuseness. There's nothing wrong with wanting TNG stars to cameo on PIC. I hope they do.

And they will. My wishing won't change that fact. They obviously haven't avoided TNG crew up to this point. Why start now?

Hopefully it makes some semblance of sense.

And I love how this got framed as a "right vs. wrong debate" when all I asked is that it make sense and that I don't think Q makes sense from a story point of view.

My fault. I understand what you're saying. I just think that anything can make sense from a story point of view if the writers wish it to, Q included. PIC Season 2 is an open book; literally anything can happen. The sky's the limit.

I hope fans enjoy it. I truly do.

It just feels like old territory for writers to revisit. I know I was originally open to cameos when PIC was first announced but that has cooled considerably since this first season.

And I'm opposed to Q for a lot of reasons.

I think Q is the perfect foil for Picard--perhaps not by design, but even so. But perhaps AGT was really the best sendoff the character could have had. I personally doubt he'll show up on PIC.
