News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

I didn't think we in the Netherlands were that stupid, so many people who where on the street. On the beach or market, unbelievable
Normally I would make a joke now, but the situation is just too scary. I just got an alert from Natuurmonumenten that our forests and other nature reserves are also flooded by thousands of people. :scream:

On the news they showed people standing in long lines in the US to buy weapons. When they asked a woman why she needed a weapon, she told the interviewer she works in a day-care and she needs it to protect the children. I’m really confused now.

I'm really annoyed. Three times in the last three days, someone had stood really close to me. I knew none of these people. The first person was standing right behind me in line when I was waiting to get into Costco. The second person was a grocery store employee, who walked right in front of me to punch in some numbers at the self-checkout. The third was a man looking for money(which was strange since he pulled up in a Mercedes sedan and I drive a 2004 Saturn). I'm getting really tired of having to tell people to give space.

A lot of Americans are paranoid. That's pretty much all you need to know.

We have a gun culture that's only gotten more out-of-control in recent years and a viral pandemic only encourages the bunker mentality. Touch my stuff and I'll shoot. Keep your distance!

I have a vague memory from several years ago, of my ex boyfriend watching some kind of cartoon, and a bunch of guys had these guns and called themselves exterminators. They go over to someone's house and literally start shooting at the insects, accomplishing nothing other than completely destroying his house. It's so stupid, I can't even be entirely sure it was a television show and not a dream lol.

There is nothing confusing about wanting to protect children in a daycare, and exercising one's inalienable rights to accomplish that is no indictment of American culture.

Hording a pile of guns for no reason is paranoid. Let's not equate people who want to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones with those who role-play in bunkers eating MRE's.

The food stocking shortages were very well predicted months ago, which was maligned as "right-wing conspiracy" and paranoia. While I didn't see the TP thing coming, I am glad I gradually stocked up on some staples well before any shortages occurred.

Take care, everyone.

Of course, the only thing causing any food stocking shortages is people panic buying.the way you did. You've managed to gain some peace of mind about a problem that people like you caused. Congratulations.

Edit: This is literally my job. Everyone knows that the current buying patterns are stupid. Even the customers. The problem is that once enough other customers are being stupid, it becomes rational to be an idiot yourself. Honestly, we should have jacked our prices up 20% when people started being stupid.

To be fair, the poster didn't say they panic-bought anything. They said they "gradually" stocked up on staples well before the shortages occurred. This is the exact strategy the Canadian government recommended we follow back in late February/early March: start buying a little bit extra with each grocery trip, to build up enough reserve that you can handle a two- to three-week isolation if you need to.

(Note that they specifically said a few weeks: not stocking up for some kind of six-month siege or something.)

I followed their advice, which is why I had enough TP and such once the shelves started to deplete. The issue now is, since I did only get enough stock for a few weeks, as I use it up, I will start to get into a bit of an issue if they can't iron out the supply chain problems and get some stock back in the stores.

Ah, right. I missed that. Probably because I'm upset at all the idiots I'm having to deal with. Still, my bad.

Edit: can't speak to your location, but in New York our main problem is that our trucks are only as big as they ever were. We restock every day, but people keep emptying the shelves.
