I gather those Romulans were told what she is by Oh and the rest. And Sythetic life that "perfect" summons the Big Bad so... she's the destroyer.I'm still confused about one thing. Apologies if it has been covered.
How does Soji's face evoke "Destroyer"? How can the admonition predict what the face of a sentient synth will look like centuries later?
Did Oh add her own gravy to the mind-meld when Data's face appears?
it almost makes me wish Seven would go Borg Queen again and just assimilate everyone. Enough of this imperfection crap. The hippy dippy synth colony also doesn't seem to care or even notice what ships or whole borg cubes get taken in by their defense flower thingies...
Yeah they don't need to destroy the Synths all they need to do is stop Sutra.I gather those Romulans were told what she is by Oh and the rest. And Sythetic life that "perfect" summons the Big Bad so... she's the destroyer.
No. I thought Thargoids from Elite: Dangerous.also, did anyone else, when the orchids show up, go .... "V'Ger?"
No, it’s Tom Hardy.
There are a number of references to this story throughout the episode that I totally would have overlooked were it not for @Bad Thoughts pointing them out.I read the latest story from Michael Chabon and he mentions that he was inspired by the short story "The Sandman" by ETA Hoffman. This is where the name Coppelius comes from.

Wouldn’t it be amusing if Seven’s Borg/XBs come in between the organics and the synths as the voice of reason, representing aspects of both sides, the only adult in the room. They may yet still have an important role to play in the coming conflict.Yeah, the Admonition doesn't make much sense the way it's been told so far by the Romulans or Sutra. Synths wouldn't exist without organics and there's no reason the two can not be blended like the Borg or Soong's latest science project. There are also the other AI intelligences developed in the Federation and the rest of the galaxy like Holograms and such. The fear factor just sounds more like fear mongering than fact.
According to Chabon, there is no empire. The empire fragmented into successor states, with the Romulan Free State being the largest and strongest, because of the support of the Tal Shiar.

The fact that I have to read Chabon's Instagram account to get some sense of the world that this series takes place is indicative of how badly the world building has been for the series.
A lot of the questions being raised here have been answered by Chabon in his stories.
No I actually thought: "Sona,...Baku?"also, did anyone else, when the orchids show up, go .... "V'Ger?"
All this makes me think that either 10 episodes were too less or that the pacing could have improved with some more scenes explanations/world-building.
It is entertaining, but y'know just nitpicking.
Not sure what Jana's and Beautiful Flower's mission was. I guess reconnaissance? Though they could have simply asked Soong about the Federation. Good for the androids that Oh and the Zhat Vash are kind of stupid and simply ordered them killed instead of being captured for further information gathering.
Maddox said before his death that he sent Dahj and Soji out to find the truth about the reasons for the synth ban. I guess Soji's mission was successful in this regard because they know now about the Zhat Vash and Commodore Oh. Though I don't know if it was so smart to purge their minds for it. They didn't know this way what happened to Jana and Beautiful Flower and couldn't prepare themselves for the danger. And they didn't even get properly rid of dangerous information in their minds like where their homeworld is. For allegedly so smart Synths they acted kind of stupid.
This of course doesn't explain why Maddox needed to go to bed with the Tal Shiar and Bejezal just for an android lab? Why not stay with Soong on that pretty android planet? He had everything he wanted to have there.
Yup. Kurtzman is ruining Trek again.
Also, this episode was the best/worst/biggest disappointment ever.
I think perhaps this is a downside of having a showrunner who is primarily a novelist rather than a screenwriter - it is clear from Chabon's Instagram Q&A sessions that a massive amount of thought and worldbuilding has gone into this show, behind the scenes, and all those intricate details are vividly clear to him, in his head. But where in a novel he would be able to bring every detail to life on the page, television is a much more visual medium that simply doesn't allow for anything like the same level of exposition.Yup. I feel like they've put a lot of thought on thinking things out, but a lot of that is not making it to the screen.
As I understand it, Maddox left Coppelia to place Dahj and Soji undercover on Earth and the Artifact respectively in order to find out the truth behind the synth ban. He didn't return to Coppelia for fear of leading enemies there, perhaps. He hid Dahj and Soji's memories of where they came from so that a) they would believe themselves human and therefore blend in better, and b) so that they couldn't give away the location of their home community (alas, this was a failure). And yes, since Dahj was on Earth she was programmed to trust Picard and go to him if she were in danger, because Maddox remembered how hard he fought to protect Data and was confident he would do the same for Dahj. The whole Maddox thing isn't making sense to me right now and just raises more questions that will never be answered. Why did he leave? When his lab was destroyed why didn't he just go back to the planet instead of going to Free Cloud? Did the Romulans find out about Dahj and Soji, and the fact that there were more synthetics, from that destroyed lab? Why did he send Soji to the cube? Why did he have her (and Dahj's) memories wiped? How did OH find out about the synthetics that Rios' ship encountered in the past? Why did Dahj have a vision of Picard's face? Was she programmed to go to him if she was in trouble?
None of that info is important to the main plot.According to Chabon, there is no empire. The empire fragmented into successor states, with the Romulan Free State being the largest and strongest, because of the support of the Tal Shiar.
