First, I was specifically talking about the stimulus package.
Second, you don't seem to have any clue what's going on. Even as cold and horrible as your comment about it being okay for 10,000+ people to die (and it's likely to be a lot more than that), you don't seem to get how our entire medical system would be overwhelmed if this thing spread like wildfire.

Some people are too stupid or selfish to count on them not spreading this around.
Do you know what the words "virus" and "pandemic" actually mean?
I had to come in to work today, and I can tell you: No, they cannot. Restaurants are still full, people don't follow the six-feet rule of social distancing, etc.. And because of the nature of viruses, the stupidity of one can risk the health, not to mention the lives, of a lot of people.
See, some stores need to stay open. Groceries, pharmacies, and such. Without these, society doesn't work anymore. They are necessities, while stuff like eating out, going to theaters, buying the latest fashion, are luxuries. You need to be able to buy food in order to survive, but you don't need to be able to go to McDonald's to survive.
It actually seems like people are following the stages of grief to a certain point when faced with this crisis. There's denial, where a lot of people still are right now. A month ago, I too thought this was like SARS and Mad Cow's Disease and all that stuff that the media was hyping up, but really didn't affect the vast majority of people. Then I learned more about it, saw what was going on in Italy, and I realized that this one is "real" and not just a way for media to "sell more papers". Denial over for me.
Then there's anger, like I myself demonstrated with my reaction to the primaries still being held. Anger can be justified, can be wrong, but ultimately it doesn't change much.
There's bargaining. People knowing "Oh, there's the danger of spreading the virus", but thinking "I still feel healthy, so it's probably alright for me to go out and do stuff".
And then there's acceptance, where we'll ultimately all (or near all) end up.
Right now, too many people, @Nakita Akita included, appear to still be in the stage of denial, with maybe a bit of bargaining in it.
One restaurant in my area has absolutely booming business since they started drive-through operations because of this situation (something they've never done before in over half a century of operations). People are definitely still going out to buy restaurant food, even if they have to take it home instead of eating it there in the restaurant dining room.

Bad? Yes. 1929 bad? No, simply due to the level of online business that's going on now. As usual, small business will suffer, while the WalMarts will come out just fine.

But, since the government included drugstores in the list of shops that can stay open, and we do sell condoms and lubricants and sex toy cleaners that have disinfectants in them, the manager thought we could use that as a loophole to stay open. Damn, I hate my boss right now.

Of all the half baked Americentric conspiracy theories I've read, that's definitely the most ridiculous. I'm going to say this as calmly and as straightforwardly as I can: a global pandemic was not arranged by Joe Biden in order to affect a US election.
Not really, WalMart sucks, but they're huge. 1929 didn't have retailers the size of a WalMart, everything was more or less a Mom & Pop level store. Even the name brand places like Jewel that did survive were small compared to today's retail overlords.

What's your point? The flu isn't going to kill many more people this year than it ever does. Covid-19 could.
The weird thing is that even Fox News has pivoted to taking the virus seriously. (Of course, now they were always taking the virus seriously. "Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia..")

More people die Every year from the regular flu.
The wacky shutting everything down in a country the size of the USA is to an attempt to make Trump look bad.
And way worse than making the president look bad, it's a way for Big Brother to get to come in and 'help'. That's the scary part, not making Trump look one way or the other.

Again, you're missing the point. Covid-19 has the potential to kill a lot more people than the flu does. Or are you saying that all scientists everywhere are lying about that? That the Italian death figures are made up? That the Chinese death figures are a hoax and the mass graves in Iran are just being dug to fool us? (OK, you probably are saying the latter two.)
My point is, as your cavalier manner states, the flu kills tens of thousand every year in the USA, but a handful of people have died from the China flu, and all businesses in the country are being closed or revised, and everyone is in a panic.
But, for the third time, you're not addressing the central issue, which is that all the evidence indicates that Covid-19 can kill far more people than the flu does. The point of precautions is to keep that from happening.
Edit: do you want to wait until Covid-19 kills more people and then try to stop it?
