Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I really should not do this but...

It takes more than a week for the virus to pass.
Many folks who are getting actual symptoms are under the weather for two weeks or more.

Absolutely In some cases and that is the same as the flu. I should clarify that I'm alert but not alarmed. I take precautions, regularly sanitise my hands and practice good hygiene. My point is that people need to be rational about this and look at this issue factually and not emotively.

Given the steps I've seen my state, my agency that I work for (a community mental health agency serving Medicaid clients) and my own hygiene I think that reasonable steps are being taken. Not sure what more can be done by my worrying.

I know it is cliche but I love the secret society of Romulans trying to understand an ancient warning and building upon a lot of bits of information. It is such a facilitating look in to their passionate duty that seems to drive their culture at times and taken to extremes.

Rios' Holograms are among my favorite parts of the show.

And Picard Seven is awesome.
It's amazing when one actor can play six different characters in a single show so convincingly.

As for Seven, I think I found her conflicts with Janeway much more interesting than pretty much anything she's done in Picard. /unpopularopinion

Perhaps it's because she hasn't been in conflict with anybody but that Borg Chop-Shop Lady?

She is no longer an antagonist.
She's a Hero, who incidentally just put her entire existence on the line to become a Borg Queen for the good of the Drones.
The ramifications of that could extend into the next two seasons of PICARD.

Don't get me wrong. Seven and Janeway not seeing eye-to-eye was one of the strongest elements of Voyager. It really comes to the forefront in "The Gift", "Prey", and "Hope and Fear". And I like how they had fun with it in "The Killing Game".

But I also like that in Picard she's become a Momma Bear, is helping people who aren't being helped otherwise, and is able to take charge of a situation. She knew exactly what to do drive the Romulans off the artifact once she had the opportunity to. And came to the La Sirena's aid before. She can think on her feet, adapts on her feet, and that's what I think the Fenris Rangers need to be able to make it in space that's become a rougher and tumbler environment than it once was. She's trying to bring order to chaos. The same thing that, in First Contact, the Borg Queen said she did. Ironically enough.

Then you would be considered a fool, selfish or both.

Honestly, how dare you consider yourself a Star Trek fan, much less a moderator.

Then explain why he is protecting somebody that just blindly dismissed the struggles and deaths of people due to the current pandemic.

Good people on both sides type of attitude is vile.

It’s not too dissimilar to themes in the show. That moderator’s attitude is exactly the type of thing Picard is against in the show.

I suggest you don’t stoke the flames by inventing what the reasons for my comments were.

My issue was not that they didn’t want to talk about politics. It was the outrageous bullshit comment after that.

When even Fox News is covering how unprepared and poorly resources the US healthcare system is to handle this pandemic, and you have a moderator trying to normalise a dismissive comment that is rooted in a clear disregard of facts, science and basic human decency, I don’t care if that moderator gets upset I’ve called him out.

My asshole comment was warning material.

This isn’t.
"The post, not the poster" has been the Golden Rule on this BBS for a couple of decades. I already gave you a verbal caution--what we sometimes refer to as a "friendly"--for this, then gave you another chance. That's what the second caution was for...insulting the poster. If you disagree with a poster (and, preferably, if it's on-topic for the thread at all), then you need to learn to express your disagreement without flaming them.

The coronavirus is a hot-button current issue, and another longstanding board policy is that such issues should be discussed in Miscellaneous or The Neutral Zone, not in other threads. Whatever your opinion of how @fireproof78 expressed themselves, they were perfectly in-line with board policy in asking that the subject be dropped here.

Finally, you argued in-thread, at length, with a moderator instruction...another violation of longstanding board policy.

You've received 1 formal Warning, and a month-long reply ban from this thread. Any issues with this should be expressed in a private Conversation (PM).

Names often have meaning on this show. At least planet names and such.

Any idea why that male android was called "beautiful flower"? Of course, it might just mean that they like weird nmes, like with Bejeezus on Freecloud. But "Beautiful Flower" is really quite out there...

Android space hippie? Orchid lover? Rosebud? Codeword for...?

The first bud of the Android Race?

This is a completely minor, but why did they talk about a "squadron"? Isn't it usually task force or fleet? I kept thinking squadron of fighters.

Yeah it is an odd term to use for a group of starships.

Unless its actually a squadron of fighters with their carrier but that would be a big departure from the norm.

The more common modern -day parlance would be "task force," though. But I like a little old-timey language in my Trek. YMMV.

No.

A task force is another word for a committee that has meetings and discussions. At best it is a bunch of people devoted to a singular task.

A squadron involves military hardware. Planes, ships, etc.
