Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

The stuff about the greater power dealing with runaway AIs is interesting and makes sense to me when you consider the lack of older powers in the Trek universe, in fact there seem to be a ton of old powers who just kind of disappeared. Makes sense to address it, unlike Babylon 5 where they had older races and Empires.

Then explain why he is protecting somebody that just blindly dismissed the struggles and deaths of people due to the current pandemic.

Good people on both sides type of attitude is vile.

Unless I've missed something, you called a poster a fool for not wanting to talk about politics here, The Old Mixer told you not call posters fools or insult them, and that was the end of it. That's been the way things have always been here. Any other moderator would've done the same.

The "on both sides" invective you're adding is just to stoke the flames.

It’s not too dissimilar to themes in the show. That moderator’s attitude is exactly the type of thing Picard is against in the show.
Ummmm ... this place has Rules and since we are all here at the good graces of the folks who own/run it, it's just best to smile and acknowledge that pissing off the Mods isn't going to get you anywhere but out the door.

Your indignation is admirable, but it's not applicable to this situation.
Your here on Their dime, you don't get to decide what is or isn't allowed.
If that is something you can't live with then perhaps you might want to find another forum to express those kind of thoughts.

I say this as someone who's seen this kind of comment a hundred times over the years and I mean it as bluntly and politely as possible: walk away and call it a day. This won't end well.
It's already past that point.
I think I can reliably predict that the Captain is a marked man.
And for nothing really, except a bit of chest beating.

SOoooo.... how many hours till the next episode....
About 145 give or take I guess.

When even Fox News is covering how unprepared and poorly resources the US healthcare system is to handle this pandemic, and you have a moderator trying to normalise a dismissive comment that is rooted in a clear disregard of facts, science and basic human decency, I don’t care if that moderator gets upset I’ve called him out.

My asshole comment was warning material.

This isn’t.

A paid gig I was on is being cancelled because of the Coronavirus. Someone's not showing up a get-together I'm going to with friends because of the Coronavirus. I work in public access TV and I recorded a meeting where 90% of it was talking about the Coronavirus. I've been dealing with it in one way or another all day.

I'm here to talk about Picard.

Heh ... the poster you are talking about simply asked that we not discuss that particular subject here and rightly so, since this is not the particular Thread to do so.

There is an area where it can be discussed.
It's called The Neutral Zone.

It had absolutely nothing to do with being "dismissive" or any of the contextual "facts" you think.

You're going off the deep end over something that is more than a bit ridiculous to even get into.

Half a million people die from influenza world wide per year at present there are 125,000 infections of covid worldwide and a Canadian pharmaceutical company has announced that a vaccine has been found and will be available by November. For most people who get covid it will be no worse than the flu and over and done in week.

Personally I'm no more worried about covid than I am influenza. My 75 year old mother who is in the highest risk bracket for contracting the virus isn't worried about it. And we're not elite. I work in retail and my mother lives on a pension.

Then PM the person, don’t do it here and derail the thread further.

I really should not do this but...

It takes more than a week for the virus to pass.
Many folks who are getting actual symptoms are under the weather for two weeks or more.

I hope that the Canadian Vaccine is successful, but that is a very unreasonable time table.
It takes a lot of testing to make sure the cure doesn't make things worse.
Especially with Viruses.

November of this year is way too optimistic.
