Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

My dentist gave me vicodin ... I'm in looooove ...

I don't get the luxury of something that sounds so exotic here in the UK
Paracetamol or Co Codamol is the limit for my joint pain
And CoCo brings on the dreaded constipation so its a no no for me

What I'd do in that situation is to sit down and make a list of all things that argue for and against a move and then see which side dominates.
As a matter of fact, we're in the middle of doing that!

While Arizona still constitutes one of the three lists we're making, we seriously doubt we can choose it. Also, regardless of whether we do, Mother-in-law Silvercrest has legal, health, and emotional issues that probably make it impossible to move her ... and the latter make it a bad idea to even bring up the topic. We'll have to notify her of the decision, whatever it is, later on.

The third list, however, is for jumping ship to another company during the six-month window. I'd only do that if the job has significant compensations for what I'd be giving up (pay, seniority, flexible schedule, etc,). But I've already started asking some friends if they have openings.

Moving is a HUGE pain in the ass

Ain't that the truth.

Especially if you have to move in a hurry. When I bought my house I still had 2 weeks left on my apartment lease so I had plenty of time. But I can't imagine what it must be like to have to move a lot of stuff RIGHT NOW.

All I know is, I will never move again. I will be a deceased old man before I give up my house. Not only because I like it here, but it's also fully paid off and ain't no WAY I'm giving up that kind of security.

Vicodin did nothing for me.. at all,.. turned everything like a red where the edges of everything had a red visual echo,.. the pain was still bad didn't seem like it was doing anything. of course they cut my ankle open ,,, scrapped the excesses bone that had grown back ,, so they kinda filed down the ankle bone in spots oh and then they fused it together mmmm with high temperature fire. It was broken into 25 pieces of bone my ankle just like sticking out of the skin and such. --- so Vicodin was of no help but the shade of red ,, that it made everywhere. --- what seemed? to help was my music I had created and put on a cds that I could play in my hospital bed. :)
dear gods (((hugs)))

My rusty 12 year old van was ready for a trade-up this year. I've been procrastinating about it as much as possible. Then yesterday, I'm crawling a few feet from my driveway, and my next door neighbor backed out & blasted me right in the front passenger side.

I didn't think it had done much damage, until I realized the whole wheel got impacted and was crooked. Probably shot tie rod maybe axle. That plus the surface damage might have added up to a chunk of costly repairs.

Fast forward to today, the insurance company totaled it, & are cutting me a check for about $1000-2000 more than I'd have gotten on a trade in, or selling it outright. Time to go by a new car

This is about as fortunate an outcome as I could've gotten. I should have someone hit me every time I'm about to trade in my old beat up vehicles. lol

OK, that worked out well! For once, a bit of bad luck became a bit of great luck. Enjoy the new ride. :bolian:

So far the coronavirus hasn't officially hit my hometown. Yet.

We'll see if that changes anytime in the coming days. :(

same here. A shop clerc refused a customer who tried to buy 16 10-roll-packs of toilet paper. She's now celebrated as a heroine :) I mean, seriousely - who needs 160 rolls of toilet paper for a quarantine of 14 days at maximum? That'd suffice me for 4 years.

I know there's a few cases near me, but when I stopped off at the supermarket this morning (for milk), I thought I'd glance at what was available.

There was three (four pack) rolls of toilet paper left on the shelves, though a couple of people I passed had the bigger packs. Notes were up to say that they were limited to two per customer though. Hand sanitizer has been completely absent for weeks. The supermarket was also relatively packed given it was only half eight in the morning.

does picard say "nr1" or "engage" the most during the tng era?
it's probably possible to find that out by searching for words in transcripts, but that seems like a lot of work....
edit: .. what

I had to shop around for baked beans just now. Asda, completely put of beans. Morrison’s, crates of beans stacked on pallets. Failing to see the fuss to be honest. Flu and noro virus kill thousands of vulnerable people every year

I’d like for all of the panic buyers to punch themselves in the gob, but I have faith that karma will find its own subtle way.

It is officially weird that the entire world of sports has been put on hold. At least a small part of my day - every day - is spent watching some sport on TV.
Turned to my husband who was watching a wrestling tournament when the news popped up on the crawl and told him “Shit just got real sweetie.” Within 48 hours all Michigan’s schools were closed for 3 weeks and not a roll of toilet paper was to be found within a 40 mile radius by Thursday morning

My mother in-law was a genius. She decided to get us a huge pack of toilet paper at Costco...before the toilet paper craze began. We have enough to last us through April.

...please don't tell her I said that.

WTF is going on with all the closures, panic and hoarding. This is living proof that the whole world is going bat crap crazy. Covid-19 is the flu - a new deadlier flu to be sure, but 12,000 people die in the USA every year from the good old-fashioned flu. The same people (elderly and chronically diseased) are vulnerable to this new flu as are vulnerable to the old. We need old Ronnie Reagan to rise up from the dead, go on TV, and reassure us in his grandfatherly way that all we need to do is what we have always done in flu season and not to panic. It is true that this new flu is deadlier than the old flu, but that is mostly because it is new and folks haven't built up immunity to it like we have the old. There have been somewhere around 50 deaths in the USA from Covid-19 which is horrible in every respect. However, based on our annual death rate from the old-fashioned flu, over 2000 people have already died in 2020 from the old stuff. We really need to put things in perspective.

when a scene in a movie makes you put it on pause and start googling for whatever song that you heard 2 seconds of in that scene....
it just happened to me
kermitexcited_small.gif

IT HAPPENED TO ME!!!!!!! NOW!!!!

so anyway, the movie or, series i was watching was the pilot of the Prodigal Son
and like 10 minutes in i heard the Jimmy Cliff version of "i can see clearly now"
and it made me smile....

wasnt that a funny story??

We do actually have an active COVID-19 thread. In that thread you will find links to a couple different articles that explain why COVID-19 is indeed much worse than seasonal flu, and that the death toll has the potential to dwarf the annual influenza death toll.

That being said, of course people should try not to panic, as panic seldom helps anything. But by the same token, people shouldn't understate the issue, either.

I know that this is the "random thoughts" thread, so I don't mind little one-off posts about it, but if people want to discuss COVID-19 in depth, I would please ask that you do so in the specific thread. This will help keep everything all in one place, and hopefully prevent numerous threads from being overrun with COVID discussions.
