Probably sometime after TNG started?? I recalled they've abbreviated 'The Next Generation' as TNG since at least half-way toward its seven-years run.
I wanna say when they started releasing it on DVD the first time...then I was wondering if it was used in the Encyclopedia.
If it was used in the first edition of The Star Trek Encyclopedia, then it goes back at least as far as 1994. (I have the second edition on hand.) The original DVD releases in 1999 bore the retronym...don't know if that would have been the first time it was used in merchandising. In my experience, it definitely wasn't around in the '80s after TNG came out. It was common to refer to TOS as "Classic Trek" back then.
1994 sounds about right, I remember using Classic Trek during the first couple of seasons of TNG and when DS9 started TOS was definately already around
I don't have it to hand (I think it's at my Mum's), but I had this from 1993 https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek_Chronology I'm reasonably certain it was used in there as well. I'll try and dig it out next time I'm there.
Captains' Logs used both Classic Trek and Star Trek '66. At least in my German edition (first printing from 1994*). *I don't know why Memory Alpha says the book was published in 1995 when my book - a translation nontheless - has 1994 as it's publishing date
Stable show runner for an entire season would probably help... Speaking of which, is Michelle Paradise still employed on Discovery?
In 1991, I remember them being abbreviated ST and ST:TNG. I think I first saw "TOS" used as an abbreviation either in 1993 through the first edition of the Star Trek Chronology or, I think Pocket Books was already calling it "Star Trek: The Original Series" by that point (not on the covers in front, but when they had the list of other novels they published in the series). If it helps as a point of reference, when I started recording TOS in 1992, I labelled the tapes "Star Trek: The Original Series".
Agree. About your three season and done comment, don't you kind of hope they kill this shit in season 3 so we want to see more of the future? I'd be disappointed if they did not do a fourth if they kill it in 3... Lastly, off topic, I am listed as a red shirt, does that mean I am the first to die in whichever chat I am in?
Narek and Narissa are not quite Jaime and Cersei yet, there has only been a one way flirtation so far and no incest. I am hoping Picard is not going to be Ned Stark, especially since they already did that with Lorca on Discovery.
