So What Are you Reading?: Generations

I'm on Part 3 of The Last Best Hope. Since it will be some time before I can see Picard, could someone please tell me which non-TNG (meaning main cast and Maddox) characters in the book appear on the show? I'd love for Raffi to show up, even in a flashback.
Oh, RaffI's a main character :D Otherwise, Agnes, Elnor and Clancy make apperances. I think those are all, but there may be more.

Raffi is a huge part of the show, although she doesn't show up until the second or third ep or so.

Every character but Kirk is identified by her or his species, race or ethnicity. That's pretty racist.
Kirk's reaction to Heather McConel speaks for itself. So, it's pretty sexist.
And the writing is, to my eyes, nothing short of dreadful.

Published in 1981, its no excuse but no surprise really, the editor is also to blame.

I read the digital collection of IDW's ST: McCoy: Frontier Doctor by John Byrne, and I enjoyed it. McCoy has always been one of my favorite TOS characters, and I really enjoyed his take on McCoy here.

So, I've finished The Last Best Hope. I found it to be well-written, and it held my interest with its characters and story. However, it did have way too much profanity for my taste in there. Vanguard had about the right balance of how people talk during tough times and not going far beyond what the show does. I would have preferred one or two swear words during the bulk of the novel and a higher usage after the main ending event. I also feel it left a couple big things unresolved, but the show may be answering those. For those who have watched Picard, has it answered or felt like it will answer

1. Why the Romulan supernova happened
2. What or who caused the big event at the end of The Last Best Hope
3. Why the Romulans did not accept help that was offered when they absolutely needed it and kept a tight lid on the extent of the disaster

That last one may just be a commentary on actual human society and climate change in particular, but it didn't quite ring true to how the Romulans were presented in TOS through Enterprise.

1. Nope
2. Not yet, but I think they will.
3. Nope, but I thought it was already sufficently explained within the novel.

1. hasn't been dealt with, but if 2. is the Synth attack that is a pretty major part of the overall arc of the first season.

I got back to the Voyager Gateways book over the last couple days, and I'm actually enjoying it a lot more than I expected to. After hearing so much negative stuff about Christie Golden's relaunch books, wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I've actually been pleasantly surprised so far.

Straight outta Fangton by C. T. Phipps.
I've enjoyed quite a few of his books and am liking this so far too.
