    On the other hand, if the point is that they publish a lot of clickbait that isn’t very good then...yeah, certainly.

    But they also pay, which is better than the alternative.

    Star Trek quickly dumped going after scifi writers because their miss to hit ratio was so high. Turns out TV writing is a different animal and most of those who pitched couldn’t deliver a workable TV story.

    If they show wasn't so behind on getting scripts written, it would've been nice if they'd just bought sci-fi stories and had freelance TV writers adapt them for Trek. Of course, that might've also been cost prohibitive.

    Well, we know GR had Fontana read a megaton of S.F. short stories and write summaries of concerning their suitability for adaptation, even though in the end they bought not a single one. I think one could make the argument that Fontana—not previously a sci-fi aficionado—probably gleaned a greater understanding of the form from that exercise.

    Honestly, they should have bought the rights to Murray Leinster's "First Contact", which she summarized, and would have made a great Trek episode.
