Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Supposedly it has been for a while but it's never been confirmed on screen. This maybe first official confirmation.
Since like before November of 2006, when CBS released TAS on DVD and the Officially Sanctioned Star Trek web site added it to what was considered canon at the time.

I really really hope Rios doesn't turn out to be a hologram, I think he is the stand out new character so far.

I really think we can truly put that ugly rumor to rest now, since the Actor playing the part has indicated he IS a Human in a few interviews.

Add the fact that Chris has been off the ship, with no indication that a
Mobile Holographic Emitter was ever seen by any of the other characters while Rios was putting on his debonair outfit.

Plus Raffi has known Chris for years and with her extremely suspicious nature, would have figured out by now if he was a hologram.

The idea that the Vulcan race are some type of biological android (ala BSG) is interesting to me. It'd make sense as to why they're so mystical, like the transferring of memories and revival of Spock. It'd make sense thematically and kind of prove what Picard always said, about how Androids could become a race of sentient human beings.

wait what? where does that come from?

i mean, i don't hate it. that's a big swing that i doubt the creators would actually go for. but interesting.

Just a theory based off the preview for the next episode, with the Vulcan/Romulan looking synth and the distrust by Romulans of these synthetics. The big secret could be that the split of the Romulans and Vulcans was some Battlestar style stuff.

One thing about Vulcan history that many of us forget is that they once fought a 100-year war with the Romulans that was accidentally started by the Quinn Q. That's a VOY datapoint and if we know anything about PIC it's that Beyer is a VOY devotee who loves to reference that series.

What if part of that 100-year war involved cybernetic technology?

You mean this?

It doesn't look Vulcan-ish at all. If anything it looks somewhat like Airiam from Discovery which opens up even more questions.

I did wonder early on if the Romulans might be afraid of synths because their ancestors created organic synths on ancient Vulcan and that's what caused the schism - the synths bred with the early Vulcans and gave them their logical ways of thinking, plus their enhanced strength and stamina. The Romulans were purebreds who didn't like it and fled.

Of course, where Vulcan mysticism factors into this is another matter... mind-melds could I suppose be a matter of reading the "neural net" of other beings. Data mastered the neck pinch.... and the transfer of katra sounds very similar to what Data attempted with B-4 and now has been taken a step further by Maddox with fractal neuronic cloning...

Not a fan of the idea that Vulcans/Romulans are biological androids like nu-bsg. It seems to be plausible but hope that is not the way they go with it. Would feel very unoriginal and derivative

Mindblown :techman:

Now i need to watch this episode again. Maybe there are other things that may appear in Picard, beside Seven ;)
That is a pretty cool find.
Watching the “next week” preview I got the distinct impression that...

Seven or maybe one of the xBs re-activates the cube and the Borg go back into full on “resistance is futile” mode.
I don't think it's that, so much as her and Elnor leading the xBs in a revolt against the Romulans.

Episode 8 Trailer
There is a shot of Seven, and it looks like there are tubes sticking in her back, and she has black eyes

... and there's a 6 second bit in the trailer that apparently shows the Borg Cube repairing itself.
It is a really neat effect and rather spooky.
