I gather the closed caption says Kzinti, but it sounded like Xindi with a slightly mispronounced X to me. Meh, I guess it's down to the TV speakers.

According to the trekcore review Hugh gave Elnor the Fenris SOS device before he died, though I didn't notice it. And it definitely belongs to Hugh since
in the Ready Room clip from next episode when Seven sees Elnor she asks "Where is Hugh"? So she knows Hugh and must have given him that particular Fenris SOS device

Frakes had been so worried about his rusted acting skills, but I have to say that he did a perfectly fine job.

I think I agree with that, but I still stand by my statement about Capaldi's years getting better and better, even if they didn't quite reach the heights of Smith's. Both were pretty great overall.

most of that had to do with Capaldi being able to elevate the scripts given to him by astounting performances. He is the best actor to ever play that part.

Anyway, Nepenthe: I'm still not sure what exactly bothered me about the Borg cube scenes but I guess it might have to do with the geography of that place being a little off - or at least it seemed that way due to the direction of that scenes.

I never thought Jurati was brainwashed, she was either in it from the start or brought into it during a visit from the Commodore.

She may have been a useful patsy long before then though.

The synths could have been more compromised than was planned, alternatively it could have been coded in such a way as to make the time of activation entirely random, that would make it very difficult for the authorities to identify the correct motive.

Was it done on First Contact day because the Zhat Vash know what happened with the Borg, although that doesn't really fit due to the Zhat Vash being founded millenia ago.

I just don't see an upside for triggering the attack when they did unless it was intended to scupper the rescue plan, which makes no sense at all especially as the Zhat Vash is made up of Romulans (in need of rescue) and Vulcans (supposed to be logical).

Has the original warning been corrupted to such an extent that the Zhat Vash have lost all reason, or do they have a very, very good reason for what they do, to the extent that they would be willing to sacrifice their own population.

that's been kinda the thought in my head. Time Traveler (or at least message, or apparently memories in this instance) from slightly more into the future experiences catastrophe, something related to Synths, and escapes or is thrown way into Romulan past. Passes along the warnings, which leads to secret cabal to try and stop it. Romulus must have played a part in it somehow to the extent that they had to let it die to try and avoid the dark future they had been shown?

Of course, if that was enough to stop it (and it would dramatically change the timeline to be sure), why keep operating after that? Hang the Mission Accomplished banner, have a Romulan Ale (but not much, it's rare now), and kick back. Could have somehow triggered the supernova in addition to scuttling the rescue effort...

It smells like a self fulfilling prophecy to me and has from the start, doesn't mean it will be though.

    We need context and details.

We don't know if the Supernova and attack on Mars are connected, destabilising a Star is a big ask, doing it in such a way as it cant be traced back to you is something else entirely.

I was under the impression that she was specifically doing something to disable the tracker, which just happened to be dangerous to her.

Nepenthe's host-star wasn't identified. This time. I'm slightly disappointed. Especially with the "Kzinti" reference.

My assumption was that it was done on First Contact Day because it was a holiday, so there would be fewer people working and so fewer Starfleet casualties. Which implies to me that whoever was behind hit was probably involved with Starfleet somehow, and that the aim of the sabotage was to get synths banned rather than kill as many people as possible.

Sure but even so it doesn't explain why they would sacrifice the rescue plan as well.

It is possible that someone in Starfleet used the attack to kill two birds with one stone, they not only wanted synthetic research banned but also didn't want the rescue to go ahead.

The question then becomes why, its no surprise that there will be elements in Starfleet and the Federation that did not feel inclined to help save the Romulans, the Commodore is a possible candidate yet she seems to be working with the Romulans in partnership or as a full Zhat Vash member herself.

It doesn't quite fit which is why it makes me think that someone is playing both sides, if that is so we may well have reason to question all of it, after all fear of an imaginary future is a tried and tested method of manipulation.

What if any Fleet Starships that show up are there just to shut Picard and his Crew down?
Not to help, but to haul them off to jail.

Its possible, that reason could be used as a cover for them to help him as well if needs be though.

I am still not entirely convinced about whose side the Commodore is on, she is after all perfectly placed to play both sides if she so wanted, yet she does have the knowledge required to be Zhat Vash, was that knowledge given to her or did she take it, perhaps she came to a different conclusion compared to the others.

There are only 3 episodes left so we wont have to wait long to find out.
