I feel like Riker being on 'active reserve' is going to be important later.

They didn't retire him completely for a resason.

Agreed especialy with the line "it's have to be an important mission" (or something to that effect. I'm not sure it will be this season but I expect we'll see riker back in space before picard is over.

As he says on Debris, all scores are relative to the series, so if it's a ten, for example, it's ten relatively to Picard but it might not be a ten compared to another series.

yep, and it's the same nonsense everywhere. Star Trek: terrible SJW propaganda, Doctor Who: terrible SJW propaganda, Star Wars: terrible SJW propaganda, Marvel comics: terrible SJW propaganda, Citizen Kane: terrible SJW propaganda, Triumph of the Will: terrible SJW propaganda...

And part of the issue then is that if there is a valid gripe about something nobody is going to listen since it's pointless gripes all the time. As an example, i didn't like the doctor who finale - not because of SJW stuff but because I simply didn't like the "big reveal".

Solid enough episode, gave it 7 but with hindsight a 5/6 would have been closer.
several gripes.
Hughs death was just poor lazy writing, I am hopeful it will move the story along in the weeks ahead, if it was just for shock value that will not sit well with me at all, already gave up on disco, walked away from the franchise after the Enterprise finale.

Swords and flying daggers in Star trek are just no, as a secondary weapon sure why not however elnor should use a disruptor.
IMO Dr Jurati needs to die/leave the show as she just annoys me lol.
Captain Cancer needs a smokers cough, it is socially irresponsible to try and make him look cool smoking a cigar or anything else.

I went into this series optimistic and until this episode remained so, in a 20 episode season it would be a solid episode, but in a 10 episode season it really has no place, We have 3 hours left and know more about the rikers bathing habits than the big bad secret.

I'm not keen on the finale itself. I mean, I couldn't care less about the additions to the canon, that so many people seemingly have problems with. It was the way it was presented for me

Yeah, I think it will play a role. I would love it if the finale had Riker in command of the Enterprise F or maybe the Titan and swoops in and saves the day. Fanwanky but it would be awesome!

The Positronic Matrix Line confuses me. They are supposed to be incredibly hard to create with only Data and Lore having one. I doubt they would have had one available to cure that silicone disease Thad had.

The difficulty is in creating full-on positronic brains. Using matricies to repair brain-damage is an established medical technicque first mentioned in the DS9 episode Life Support, where Bashir used one to keep Vedek Bareil alive.

I'd rather see captain worf but riker come on board to help out for a specifc reason. maybe he's the one who gets worf to help and demands to come along and lead the away mission.

Good lord, was this episode a turd. First we've got Riker saying "I told you so" about Picard trying to help the Romulans. Wil Riker would be the first to want to help out people in need. That was the first of many serious WTF moments. The next was Troi telling us her son died because of some techno-babbly gobbldy-gook involving cooking a cure inside an android brain. Um, what? Their kid dying had zero effect on the plot. It was just there, and the reason was insanely contrived. Tragedy for the sake of it. This old captain that was supposed to help Picard get off Napenthe was mentioned and mentioned and then dropped. Hue's death is another over the top act of violence. One thing I've noticed in both Picard and Discovery is that there's really obvious CG blood spatter everywhere. I don't hate it because it's too gorey, but because it's comical. You can't die with dignity when cgi blood is squirting out of you. Fine for bad guys, but for heroes? Agnes was further infantilized beyond her daddy complex with "cake and milk" snacks. And she replicates something in an obvious 21st century 3D printer. I think it was a Makerbot with the print head removed. Then Picard just beams out of Nepenthe with the Rikers adding pretty much nothing to the overall story.

I did really like Troi and Wil's kid, though. Princess Mononoke outfit and everything.

I find it hard to respect the opinions of users of this website. How this episode, in fact all episodes of this series get mostly 8, 9 and 10 ratings. What makes this episode an 8+ out of 10? (10 out of 10 means an episode is perfect with no flaws, the best television can get). Do those who score this 10/10 think this episode is amongst the best tv they have ever seen?. Put aside that STP is boring, badly paced, character assassinating, canon breaking dross; this episode was especially uninteresting and schmaltzy. You can see a mile off that they are going to get 7 of 9 (possibly Picard) to reactivate the Borgs on the cube and assimilate the resident romulans...yawn.

I'm rating it a 10 on the basis of the series. Every series is different, so you have to grade each episode as such. This was my first 10 to Picard, mainly because in terms of the first 7 episodes, this was my favorite episode so far and it was a natural progression from last week. Things are building to the end and I'm excited about that. I even said in my review that I might have been a little generous, but I'm willing to give this series the benefit of the doubt now, so I might have a couple 10's in there now that the sample size is pretty good.

Just a thought that'll probably never come to fruition: What if Captain Crandall was played by Ian McKellan? THAT would be awesome!
It's someone who is even older in-universe than Picard. Someone we haven't seen before, but someone we definitely will see. Ian McKellan definitely fits the bill, but that may be too on the nose. What other actor near/at their 80s who is still active who can make a great cameo? Hint, may or may not have same last name as a major American car manufacturer ;)
Imagine the reaction on Ze Interwebz if that were the case :)

I am happily in ignorance of people on Youtube trashing this show. I imagine CBS cares only about how many people pay to watch this series and I am a paying subscriber.

I like this show so far so much better than Discovery and am happy with where they’re taking it. The scenes with the Rikers and Picard and Soji were terrific. I like the action scenes. Poor Agnes had a good motivation in saving the universe, but it will probably turn out to be manipulation. It is confirmed that Narissa and Narek are zhat vash and it looks like there will be more of an explanation about who they are next week. My personal theory is that it will all turn out to be Control, an evil alien synthetic intelligence that originated somewhere thousands of years ago and has evolved to take over and threaten biological life forms. There will probably be a tie in with Discovery in the 30th century and the ruin of the Federation.

Don't know about the car thing but Derek Jacobi wouldn't mind being in Trek I bet. Ian McKellen is already Magneto and Gandalf.

CGI blood goes back to Star Trek 6.

Riker has a history of being a jerk on TNG so his snide comments about the Romulan evacuation don't surprise me. And he might not have really meant it anyway, while he is a jerk his bark is often worse than his bite.

I find it very hard to believe Riker and Troi didn't do more to help Thad. They should have been the ones hunting Maddox or Lore's brain and throwing a fit to Starfleet Command. Kirk will steal the Enterprise to help McCoy get rid of the katra (and he could have just had a Vulcan priest remove the katra like someone did with Surak's katra in Archer) but Riker will be a good little Starfleet officer when his own son's life is at stake?
