Star Trek Picard is not Star Trek

THIS proves that TOS didn't care too much about the in-universe lore.

Because how can Spock have high enough opinion of the bible to quote it? He is a vulcan, Surak logic is their only religion. I was raised as a catholic and I read the bible, I even attended christian classes at school, but since I dropped my religion I can't think of any famous verse from those books beside the ones that I needed to understand Neon Genesis Evangelion lore
Spock was a scholarly individual. If he knew he would be spending a lot of time with humans, It wouldn't surprise me if he made a point of studying the roots of current (to him) human culture -- especially the Western human culture -- that we mostly see in all Star Trek, and not just TOS.

And those roots certainly would include the bible, even if Judeo-Christian faiths are less of a thing by the 23rd and 24th centuries.

And I am a man of science but I find really strange that no human in the whole Trek have no other religion than pure science and logic.

I think Pike in STDisco season 2 shows some signs of being slightly religious, but I can't remember the details and I don't feel like watching it again.

The whole "utopian" thing is being taken to ridiculous extremes, IMO.
TNG often took it to ridiculous and unbelievable extremes.

I admit that it is human nature to strive for a Utopia, but I think that same human nature (which is not that easy to change) will prevent society from actually reaching a Utopia anytime soon, not even in 350 years.

I found TNG's description of 24th-century idyllic Earth society to be creepy in a "Stepford Wives" sort of way. Conversely, I find the depiction in PIC of a future Human society that shows us all of its warts to be much more comforting.

If I could hate Voyager, that would be an improvement, then it would manage to evoke at least some sort of an emotion in me. But it is too bland and boring to even be properly hated.
Voyager is infinitely more re-watchable on Netflix where you can watch 3-4 episodes in one go. Yes, you'll get a Chakotay episode, but then you get a Janeway gem. After recently re-watching all of it within 3 months or so, I find it overall to be.. not so bad. Janeway is easily second best Trek Captain, right after Picard. That's something I never said during original run.

Janeway is a good captain just because she is a woman. She is a strong leader and a nice person, but if the same role was to be performed by a man it would not be as interesting.

But yeah, that's off topic here

Whatever our differences, we can all agree that Archer is just the worst.

What's this thread about again?
I'd say Prime Lorca is the worst (got himself killed, probably, off-screen) with close second Prime Georgiou (couldn't handle a single Klingon, pfft)
What IS this thread about?

I rest my case, Your Honor.
I'm not saying he is bad. He's right there at number 4: Picard, Janeway, Kirk, Sisko. Number four aint bad :)

Huh? Janeway ended up being a good captain because Kate Mulgrew brought some absolutely atrocious writing to life in a way few actors can. She seemed to give it all whenever she was on the set. The show would've bombed if they had kept Genevieve Bujold around.

Yes. It was really amazing to watch her on OITNB and see what she can do with actually good material.

Episodic is pretty much reserved for police procedurals and medical dramas now, and even then with character arcs. Think Law and Order SVU and the Good Doctor. I don't have strong feelings on it one way or the other, but episodic wouldn't really work for this show. Wouldn't mind seeing it for another starship centered series. All of this stuff is cyclical, so it will find favor again at some point.
The episodic format can't work for "Picard" because the show doesn't know what it wants to be. At least when Berman was running Star Trek, he at least, had a clue what his series wanted to be.
