Sony Spider-Verse discussion thread

Michael Keaton, Woody Harrelson, possibly Jake Gyllenhaal and potentially Tom Hardy and Jared Leto. This theoretical movie has the potential to have a hell of a cast.

They have the complete series on Disney+, along with Unlimited, the 80s series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and the current series.

[**Grumbling about crappy internet service and my general preference for physical media and Disney's incredibly poor track record in this regard.**]

I certainly assumed that he was pulling yet another fake-out. Peter starts to ask EDITH, "Is he dead?" but stops and instead asks, "Is this real?" to which she replies "All illusions are down, Peter." Which seems to imply he is dead but actually leaves a massive out for him to be alive. You don't need a hologram to fake your death. :)

Wow. Yeah. That's a pretty big hole. It's certainly not too big of a stretch to suggest that Mysterio of all people had a back-up plan to fool EDITH to fake his own death.

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this here or over in the MCU spoiler/speculation thread: but is there any word on whether or not the current deal between Sony and Disney covers other Spider-people (such as Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider), or would those characters have to be re-negotiated on as an when they may appear in live-action form?

For example, with an MCU movie in the works for Shang-Chi, my hope is that follow-on movies (and/or Disney+ series) could lead to an on-screen incarnation of the comics' New Agents of Atlas. However, the current Earth-616 version of the team also features Cindy Moon, who as a "Spider-person" presumably falls under the Sony stable of Marvel characters. So if Marvel were one day minded to assemble an Agents of Atlas team in the MCU, would they already be able to add Silk to the mix under their current deal with Sony, or would they have to sign a separate deal in order to allow her to be part of such a team?

As Digific noted, miles and Gwen are both Sony as seen in Into the Spider-Verse. As for Cindy Moon, though she wasn't named as such in the dialogue, one of Peter's classmates in Homecoming was listed in the credits as Cindy Moon, therefore I imagine that Cindy is also a Sony character.

As far as I know, the only 2 Spider-Man-related characters that Marvel/Marvel Studios controls in terms of filmic rights are Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) and Kingpin.

Yes, they're all Sony characters. What I believe Nerroth was asking was whether Sony's deal with Marvel gives Marvel permission to use them in MCU films other than Sony's Spider-Man films, in the way that Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame used Spider-Man (and Aunt May and Ned).

Morbius is one of several Sony movies getting their releases pushed back due to the COVID-19 precautions, 3/19/2021.
That's pretty far off, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry at this point.

I'm glad that they're getting a female lead project off the ground finally. I'm still bummed that Silver and Black got canned.

Madame Web seems like an odd character to base a movie around. Doesn't she pretty much just sit in a chair and get visions of the future, which she then warns the Spiders about?
From what I've read about the character, she doesn't really seem to play much of an active role in the stories she's involved in.
I would think Silk or Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman would have been a better choice for a female lead Spider Universe movie.

Same here. I was really looking forward to that one even though I knew very little about Silver Sable.

S.J. Clarkson is a great choice. She's done a lot of great television work although this appears to be her first feature film (although she did do a TV film, Toast).
