TAS made real....

I humbly suggest a gangway hatch on the aft face of the lowermost part of its hull. When it is sitting on its landing gear, you’d approach it from behind at ground level and enter that through that cargo hold.

And that is where I planned it. Same as Reverend.

Presently this evening I have just finished the aft landing struts. Next will be the forward strut and then the access hatch/gangway. I must also make a bit of the interior where these parts are located so when imaged and seen obliquely you get a sense of something more being there. That said I’m not doing a complete interior like I did for the Class F shuttlecraft because it’s something we likely wouldn’t have seen on TOS. Also, my Class F model was a project in reconciling the disparate interior and exterior shown onscreen and that isn’t an issue with these TAS models.

While it’s fun seeing a 3D version of Cyrano Jones’ TAS ship then trying to make it look as how it might have appeared in TOS it is also a bit of retconning. We really have little to no idea what Matt Jefferies might have conjured up if he had actually designed a ship for Jones in TOS. Mind you it’s possible there is something in Jefferies’ collection of sketches that could possibly be fleshed out that could have served as Jones spacecraft.

I believe I'm done with this. I could detail the interior more, but what I've done here is likely more than what TOS would have done if they had even ever bothered to work up a miniature for something like this. I still might cook up a couple of more scenes for it, but the model itself is done.

Btw the scale of this thing is a good deal larger than a Class F shuttlecraft and I cannot see any way this could fit into the Enterprise’s hangar area.

Now on to the next subject.

Robot freigther anyone?

It's an amazing design - and yes please do some more scenes featuring it. Ship models take so long to make it would be a shame if we didn't see this one again.

The robot freighter in TAS is an interesting shape, one that is much more able to be translated into 3d than Cyrano Jones' ship.

Yeah, the robot freighter is easy peasy, there's ortho's flying around the web, like, everywhere. Heck, I even made one myself, including the manned variant!

Of all the TAS ships the robot freighter and the freighter Huron always struck me as the most credible particularly for Starfleet ships. They look like more thought had been put into them. They are rather on the squarish side, but then they’re transports so elegance in design isn’t a necessity. Indeed a square, rectangular or cylindrical shape would be ideal for a space vessel meant to transport bulk cargo. The fact these ships are not plain and simple shapes perhaps suggests other uses.

The TAS shuttlecraft, while intriguing, are simply not credible as starship based shuttlecraft. Their scale is way off such that they could never work as depicted as standard complement on a starship. The aquashuttle in particular doesn’t even look remotely hydrodynamic. The TAS designs might work as specialized craft loaned out to starships for specific missions, but having such a large vehicle berthed on the flight deck would severely inconvenience normal shuttlecraft operations.

From Page 58 of the Official Guide To The Animated Series. These are drawings I have never seen previously of the TAS robot freighter. I am pretty sure these angles were not seen onscreen (unless I am misremembering it) and they give us a bit more detail. These along with the orthos from the Roddenberry Vault should prove useful.

Awesome! Those blueprints make it look like the forward dorsal hull would be an ideal place to park shuttlecraft, or maybe external cargo containers...

(I've not seen most of TAS so if this actually happened or is instead precluded by something, please forgive...)
