Sir Pat seems to enjoy and agree with how different ST Picard is, and that puzzles me a bit.
Personally I do not get it, why ST current creators (and stars) want so much to leave the ST we know for something much darker? Trying to "escape" from what made ST being loved by so many ppl? Just for the shake of being trendy?
*shrugs*

I think Stewart's been pretty explicit about this. In brief, darker times call for darker Trek. TNG was a product of the end-of-history triumphalism of its time, and it shows. Picard is about now, which is .... not exactly triumphant.

(One of the funny things about our current moment is that everyone seems to think they're losing, simultaneously.)

They are at least part of the same series. If you are not much of a fanfic reader you likely don't know how often for example Legolas has slept with Harry Potter or Hermione Granger in fanfics.
Right up there with that sparkly twerp excuse for a vampire.

Michael Chabbon did, apparently.
I mean, he didn't write or direct the episode. So who's to say it was his idea?

Well, ever since I've found a Tilly/Killy fic on AO3 I've just accepted that if a ship can be named, AO3 will have at least one fic for it.
Well, Intendant Kira started the whole Mirror version being interested in their Prime counterpart.

You did this same thing with Discovery too. 'Why do people complain about this thing that happened in an episode that aired two days ago and not complain about a somewhat similar thing that happened in another episode several decades ago, before the internet even existed?" Gee, that sure is a mystery!

Furthermore, there is no 'great outcry' about this.
Yes, it is confusing to me. And maybe it's my bias but I am seeing it more.

Sorry if I am noticing it more...sorry if it bothers me.

Someone quoted him as stating that violence was decided by a group effort so he had at least some say in it.

Are you also confused about why people these days seem to talk much more about the climate chance than about the black death?

There was a lot of crap going on in the 80s, too. Not to mention during TOS time.

Also you can argue that especially in darker times series are needed which inspire people and show them a better way. Or just that it is worthwhile to give people a reason to laugh and forget their sorrows for a moment when real life is bad.

False equivalency. For me, it's about consistency of things that are bothersome in franchise.

The only consistency I see us desire to bitch. Yes. It is confusing. If it is so bothersome then feel free to leave me be.
How can you not get that people are gonna talk now about things that happen now and much less about things that happened decades ago? Those things was discussed then, though there was no internet to amplify the noise.

And yes, even though I really like Robin Curtis's performance, Saavik recast is really jarring and it bugs me. I'm just not gonna list every remotely similar instance that has happened over several decades when discussing the current episode though, as it would be bizarre.

Sigh.. while I think this was the best acting Michelle Hurd has given us so far, her character is just all over the place. So, this snake leaf stuff is pretty bad? .... she finds her "son" and claims to him she's "clean"? ... isn't that a flat out lie? Her son has every right to be pissed at her from what we know. He also should go to acting school (horrible). Man, his wife looked like she was ready to pop! ... lol triplets on the way!

So, 7 is now a "Ranger" ... BAB5 popped in my head immediately. I was waiting for some sort of "We live for the One, we die for the One!" reference. I thought Jeri did REALLY well with what she was given here and what she was given wasn't bad. I was impressed. I hope this isn't a flash in the pan thing with 7... I want her as a regular in this series. So who is this "Chop Doc" Borg part seller gal? ... did I read this right, was she and 7 in some sort of previous relationship? I felt no-shit tension and drama in 7's scenes (for the 1st time in this show). I'm glad 7 schwacked her. Did anyone else catch that Madam Chop Doc was looking for a cortical node in Icheb? ... I immediately knew she wouldn't find one because he gave it to 7 in "Imperfection".

As far as casting the initial actors for the Maddox and Icheb parts... if I were Brian Brophy and Manu Intiraymi I would have said "what's the point"? ... eesh, I can't remember such short screen time for someone that should have meant more to the plot; especially Maddox.

I didn't mind the animated pop-up stuff ... hell, we get tailored crap on our phone and email every day. Nothing for Elnor?

When they beamed down to this place on Freecloud and were all guzzied up, I thought Picard should have been dressed like Dixon Hill instead of an over the top French dude.

I was really surprised Maddox had such a short role. He basically only told JL where to find Soji (and that she existed)... I was expecting more. .... so, were my suspicions true? ... is Agnes a Romulan spy? ... or was she acting on her own? ... more to follow I'm sure.

I was more than happy not to see Soji and her love interest (I need to shave Romulan spy) and the creepy interactions with Narissa for one episode.

What did they show Agnes? Who is they? What does she think she needs to atone for? Why did Maddox have to die? How is the Federation involved? Allison conveyed her conflicted position very well I thought. I don't think she planned to do this when she joined Picard.

Tune in next week for more answers... I hope. I just hope 7 is part of our search for the answers.

I thought this episode was better than the last two.

Because it comes across as shock that Trek would dare do this thing, recast, redesign or whatever.

It feels very disingenuous. Sorry, its confusing to me. Maybe I missed the great heyday of fans complaining about Saavik or Klingons or whatever. It just seems louder and increasingly inconsistent than before.

Everything is louder now. It's the internet. But those discussions have happened... decades ago.
