Ok, then Saavik. Is there great outcry over that?
Umm... Yes. It has been 36 years and there still are occasional complaints about it.

Also, I really haven't seen any 'outrage' about Maddox recasting, some people have merely said that they would have preferred the original actor. I would have too, as to me 'the Measure of a Man' was such a memorable episode. Though as recasts go, the intervening three decades make this about as non-jarring as it can be with adult actors.

Icheb recast of course is perfectly understandable due the RL issues.

Ok, late to the convo but - Holy crap Ichebs death was nuts! Super unexpectedly gory, but also an excellent way to Impress how evil the villain is and how the ex Borg are hunted and abused.

Loved the little call outs, all of which have already been discussed here.

I felt the episode was a nice way bring a bit of episodic Trek back into this longform storytelling.

Picard is so mellow now. It's a little jarring tbh. I'm glad Stewart is enjoying himself but it feels off. And this is from someone who don't a big Picard (character) fan.

Jurati has been obvious from the start so .glad they didn't drag it out. Not sure how she can get away with the murder though? Unless she doesn't try? Little surprised she and Maddox were lovers though. That age difference is a little creepy. He was also her boss....

The group of 8 is gonna be the secret secret intelligence agencies of each power stopping the robot apocalypse. They will lead us in the Butlerian Jihad.

On a purely superficial note, hot damn Jeri Ryan must work out like crazy, and those were flattering pants.

Granted, I wasn't a fan in 1984, but I have been since 1991 and have been online since 1996. I've never seen any outcry over Robin Curtis. And definitely not to the degree that's been on display in this thread over the re-casting of Maddux. Never.

I've seen people who prefer Kristie Alley over Robin Curtis (consider me to be part of that camp). But that's not the same thing.

I missed the "great outcry" over it. I figured occasional complaints would occur. That's the nature of fandom.

I guess I'm sheltered/ignorant/unaware because I see more about this one than my reviews of Saavik. I don't see the furor over Saavik as I do with Maddox, here, Reddit, demanding explanations, etc...

Edit-Ninja'd. Lord Garth puts it better.

But Lore's fate was never established, and they easily could have dropped a line establishing otherwise if they were conscious of the matter and wanted to take that possibility off the table.

With the effort they’ve put into continuity for Picard - not just “mots hair imperium” and other Easter eggs but major plot points like Maddox, Icheb, and even Ichebs cortical mode, I have full confidence they haven’t ignored Lore.

I don't think Icheb's recast was of great consequence. I would have preferred if they had done the gore part off-camera as they did for instance when Khan crushed Admiral Marcus' head. Whoever thought that the eye-gouging added anything to the story?

Please tell me you meant to make that pun

Michael Chabbon did, apparently.

That's because in the late 1980ies - Usenet on the Internet was very niche, local dial up BBSes were small and isolated - and there was no way to MONETIZE social media just because you're another, "idiot with an opinion" - a Youtube Channel - and a PC Camera.

Why? I’m quite liking the buildup!

They may have started out as hints but, by the end, I thought it was pretty darn clear that they’d previously had a thing?

Recognised it straight away, and thought it was genuinely beautiful. I would imagine VOY die hards would get a tear in their eye(s) at that point. Great little scene, too.

Yeah. It’s so odd. I’ve always been a Voyager “die-hard” and I listened to the actual theme over and over today. I just don’t hear it at all. It’s really starting to frustrate me, honestly.

She probably noticed people got a kick out of it and kept at it.

Note how characters who remain off-camera for a very long time become caricatures of themselves. They usually revert to a former state. Like when Data talks in TATV his way of talking is a reminder of the first season, not the seventh.

I've preferred Robin Curtis to Kirstie Alley for years. Her makeup was superior to Alley's as well as her overall performance.

Holy shit. I just noticed an Elnor/Soji relationship tag on AO3.
They haven't even met yet. WTF? And apparently the relationship name is "Elnoji". :wtf:

EDIT: Wrote Jurati for some reason. Though that one will probably show up at some point, too.

Recasts are definitely bad when the replacement is just so much worse. In my opinion Saavik turned from a great character into a bad one. It was just as bad as the recast of Ruby in Supernatural in case anyone is familiar with that series.

I'm glad Seven went back to disintegrate Bjayzl and that Rios understood it needed to happen. Talking about mercy is appropriate after you've eliminated the perpetrator's capacity to do harm, but this woman was still willing to go on abducting people, abusing them, selling them into slavery, and harvesting parts from their still-living bodies. Leaving her in a position where she can keep doing that is clearly unethical.

Totally agree

As a famous fictional scientist (Salarian) once said: "Lots of ways to help people. Sometimes heal patients. Sometimes execute dangerous people. Either way helps."
