The Fenris Rangers

I think Ro Laren and Tom Riker would fit in well with the Rangers too.

It would be cool to see, but on screen I don't think either of them survived the Dominion, especially T. Riker.

Off screen, Forbes still won't admit she made a mistake not going to DS9 so that ship has probably sailed and Frakes is much more comfortable behind the camera these days.

You know who would fit perfectly as the leader of the Rangers?
Janeway.
Not only she would have quit starfleet over the whole Romualn fiasco, she would take an active part trying to to something...Like forming the Rangers. A move that that would contrasts to what Picard did and regrets..
I am sure Kate Mulgrew would come back fora role that juicy, that could eventually lead to a spinoff.

I think that "Special Guest Stars" are something that should be avoided if at all possible. Give the main characters and those who portray them a chance to shine, rather than letting the Actor Formerly Known as X dominate episode after episode.

Are you sure Janeway would have quit over the Romuluan supernova? I bet she's still an Admiral.

We have no reason to think that Laren, at least, might have survived. The last we saw of Tom, he was being sent to a Cardassian jail. The last we saw of Laren, she was free. I can see her making it.

As for her career choices, her decision not to continue the character of Ro Laren on DS9 or on Voyager was hers alone. Certainly she has had an active and diverse career, perhaps one she could not have had if she had doubled-down on Trek.

Fenris Rangers as a show would be the closest Trek gets to being a western. Even if TOS and DS9 were conceptually considered as such.

If Riker was still in the Cardassian prison when the Cardassians sold their souls to the Dominion, he and maybe every other prisoner might have been executed. There was that window of opportunity for pardon or whatever after the Detapa Council overthrew the Central Command and after the Obsidian Order had been effectively neutralized.

If he went back to the Maquis (he might not have given that he was doing it more to prove himself than aid their cause), then he and Ro might have been killed when Cardassia entered the Dominion and they killed everyone except Eddington & Co.

Maybe the stories of their ends could be depicted in some flashback or Treklit.

I don't know what happened to Thomas in the Treklit, but in the last DS9 Treklit I read, Ro was in the Bajoran Militia as security chief of DS9, somehow surviving the Dominion purge and war. That was a while ago though and Bajor's since joined the Federation. Pardon and commission again in Starfleet?

Lt Ro was indeed pardoned and integrated into Starfleet at her last rank of Lieutenant (potentially one grade higher than her militia one, canon is unclear whether the BM runs Second Lt,l First Lt, Captain or Ensign, LT JG, LT). She was promoted to LT CMDR under Kira, then CMDR under Elias Vaughn, eventually assuming command of Deep Space Nine (with an eventual promotion to Captain).

Tom Riker survived the Dominion War, although intelligence reports had for a time been circulated to the contrary. He works as a contractor/mercenary, intially for covert elements within Starfleet, and then later -- after his survival is "revealed" during the assassination investigations of 2385 -- he occasionally worked for his brother and Chief Admiral Akaar.

Em... it is not upto fans to decide that - if she is happy with her choice there is nothing to admit.

Fair enough. I'll admit that I was intoxicated when I posted that. Far be it for a rube like me to tell someone else how to run their career.

I think my angst was that I thought Ro was such a promising character and pre-teen me had a huge crush on her and wanted to see her more.

If she is happy with her career choice, that is great. Plus that choice did get us Kira, so that is a big plus as she was one of the best female characters in Trek history.

source?

The Federation in the Picard timeline future makes it necessary to recreate a Maquis-like group. So this might answer the question of Chakotay's fate. I don't think that he is the commander of a federation ship these days...
