2020 titles announced

I'm the same way, my biggest problem is I change my mind a lot, so I'm always reorganizing both my bookshelf and my Goodreads account.

I think I'm settled in now. I usually use the TV series as primary, then pretty much in order of release, particularly after the numbered novels period. The later Section 31 novels were the only ones I moved (to DS9).

Some exceptions are novel only series like New Frontier, the Shatnerverse novels and Vanguard-Seekers. I also have my Captain's Table novels together. I thought about putting the earlier Section 31 novels together with the newer ones in their own section, but some of the Section 31 novels fit better with the series. Like the first DS9 Section 31 novel fits best it it's spot chronologically with the DS9 relaunch. I didn't want to separate it out. So I just put each one it it's place for the series it's a part of.

As an aside I still remember when I moved and was putting my novels I was wondering what the Hell happened to some of my numbered TNG novels. I was missing several consecutive books and I knew I had them all at one time. Then I remembered I had bought the Double Helix omnibus which accounted for my missing numbered TNG books. But for about 3 days I was driving myself nuts trying to figure out where these novels were. I guess if I just checked Memory Alpha I would have figured it out pretty quickly.

I mostly have mine by series chronologically, but where the stories cross between series like the Post-Nemesis Romulan arc, and Destiny and the stuff after it, then it's mixed series chronoligcally.
If anybody is curious here's my Goodreads Star Trek shelves. I have have two, one for the Novelverse stuff, and one for the Non-Novelverse stuff. Mostly the Novelverse is for any novel after 2003 that doesn't directly contradict anything else, and the Non-Novelverse is for stuff from before '03 and stuff that contradicts the Novelverse. Most of my comics automatically go in Non-Novelverse shelf, unless they are explcitly part of the Noveverse, like Divided We Fall and the New Frontier comics.

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out my shelving too. Right now I’ve got them mostly organized chronologically, more or less. Now that Last Best Hope is in the mix, I’m leaning towards effectively just having it and subsequent Picard books set after the ongoing novelverse, just for the sake of coherent story threads - Admiral Picard dealing with Romulan resettlement and Captain Picard dealing with the final Borg invasion don’t coexist, so having one interrupt the other doesn’t make sense.

Thinking about "Die Standing" in a way it wouldn't make sense to carry a Section 31 in the banner in any capacity anyway since the Section 31 stories focus on a storyline largely incompatible with Discovery.

The actual Section 31 novels involved Uraei and a different version of Control then what was featured in Discovery. To use a Section 31 banner on "Die Standing" might give the wrong impression to readers that it might tie into that series. I have to imagine "Die Standing" will be linked to the version of Section 31 we see in Discovery and not the version we see in the relaunches. So it wouldn't make sense for it to be "Star Trek: Discovery: Section 31".

So I'm doubtful it will have any significant links to David Mack's Section 31 novels or Christopher's Enterprise novels which depict the creation of Uraei.

Though on further reflection JJ Miller did manage to salvage at least some of "Desperate Hours" so who knows, maybe he'll find a way to salvage something of the Uraei storyline
You just wait until the Section 31 series happens, and they start writing tie-ins called... Star Trek: Section 31.

I plan on putting my Picard books on my TNG shelf, after the relaunches. IF, and it's a big IF, there are future relaunch books in TNG universe, I'll put them after "Collateral Damage" but before the Picard novels. It's a bit easier if there are future DS9 books or other series books since they'll just go with those series--but I somehow doubt we'll see other series books after "To Lose the Earth".

Hmm, yeah. I guess at that point I'd put those Section 31 books by themselves together. I'd still leave the earlier Section 31 novels where they are now. They'll be distinct in the sense that those earlier Section 31 novels are more tied into the previous novel incarnation of 31 while the new series books will be tied to the changes we saw in Discovery.

Honestly, I don't organize my books at all and there's a decent percentage of them that never end up on a shelf of any kind, but rather are just stacked on the floor of my bedroom in the order in which I read them.

This is what's great about having migrated to ebooks so many years ago now, it makes organization just so much easier and I don't have to worry about books shifting from MMPK to TPB.

Even though I read mostly e-books, I still use Goodreads to keep track of things and to organize them.

You must not have any pets if you can get away with leaving books on the floor. If I tried that with my dogs in the house they'd either pee on them, or shred them.

The ViacomCBS info that came out today made it sound like more Picard books are on the way. I'll venture a guess that they'll each focus on different characters' backstories. Learning more about Seven, post-Voyager, and Rios will be nice.

What ViacomCBS info? Just curious.

Not really. All it says is, "Plus, a series of Star Trek books and comics from Simon & Schuster, which is owned by ViacomCBS, are out or coming soon, including a prequel focused on Picard." That's just repeating what we already know.

I hope we get prequel novels featuring both Raffi and Rios. (I know Raffi features heavily in The Last Best Hope, but I want more! :) )
It's a good sign when a show introduces completely-new characters into a show designed for an old favorite, and we're saddened that they don't have a BIGGER part. Picard and his Romulan housemates just running a vineyard would be a show I'd enjoy. "...What's that, Number One? A synthetic is stuck in the well?! Show us, boy!!"

Honestly that's not as bad as I thought it would be. Since every book from now on will be TPB. It would be different if it was a mix (it still bugs me my first Romulan War book is a trade and the next a MMPB--ugh). But since they'll all be trades now it will sort of even out. I'll probably put my Picard books after the last TNG book so that will start to add up. The only one that might stick out a bit is the last Voyager book, since I doubt they'll be any further Voyager books so it'll be just one and stick out like the Romulan War book.

Sorry, much too OCD for me to allow that to occur. OMG, just thinking about it make me shiver :ack:
