Icheb was killed off gruesomely. Intiraymi would've been far better than Casey King, even though I guess it was a flashback to nine years after Voyager and 13 years before Picard, necessitating a young adult Icheb and not one in his forties. But Intiraymi should've been fine in a short role with a proper wig and makeup to hide any age discrepancy. I think he probably balked at the idea, and they went with someone else. Still Intiraymi was a major, multi-season recurring actor, with major plotlines and entire episodes devoted to his character. A big difference over the recasting of Maddox.

It causes me worry over who they might recast next. Naomi? Harry Kim? The Outrageous Okona? They spoiled us with Jonathan Del Arco.

I would assume the recasting has more to do with Intiraymi's social media comments from a couple years ago. Specifically the ones mocking people who had come out because of the #metoo movement, including his mocking of Anthony Rapp.

She's insanely gorgeous!!!

that's true

A man had his head explode and his exposed spinal column was visible as well as his exploded, exposed chest with ribs.

That was in Season 1 of TNG
Yeah, but the episode Conspiracy was the exception not the rule. Also it was bizarrely cartoony from what I recall, not realistic at all.

Harve Bennett himself said of the really mild Star Trek 2009 movie: Gore for the sake of gore. https://www.startrek.com/article/interview-with-harve-bennett-2

And that movie was really mild. One wonders what he would have thought of this episode if he were around and saw it.

this was so much better than last week and wow that Icheb scene was brutal... i love it! poor seven though betrayed by someone she loved? trusted i'm glad she was able to get revenge for that

Having the Doctor meeting with Commodore Oh and then curiously showing up everywhere wasn't odd?

Going as extreme as killing Maddox? No i would have never thought that in a million years. I want to know WHAT is going on with Soji that the Federation is willing to work with the Zat Vash.

And how Commander O, turned the Doctor over to the dark side in one conversation.

Why is it a recurring Trek theme (same complaint about Unification and Spock) that the most private, characters who rarely trust others (we're told again and again Spock can't even be bothered to tell Kirk about his family like Burnham, Sarek, and Sybok) suddenly in a sequel episode trust everything to people who haven't shown signs of remotely deserving it? Spock with Pardek, and now Seven/Annika with this B'jayeth woman.

Is Maddox really dead? I mean, we have his escape clause written in the premise--biological androids. This could have been a synth double.

Maddox will come back and say, "Ha ha". Have him played by Brian Brophy to mess with fans. Agnes will be relieved she killed a robot and thus won't go to jail. Good thing androids weren't given rights huh?

This is also a TV-MA show. People need to really, really stop being upset or concerned with violence, gore and cursing or acting surprised when it happens on a show of this rating.

I'm glad Seven went back to disintegrate Bjayzl and that Rios understood it needed to happen. Talking about mercy is appropriate after you've eliminated the perpetrator's capacity to do harm, but this woman was still willing to go on abducting people, abusing them, selling them into slavery, and harvesting parts from their still-living bodies. Leaving her in a position where she can keep doing that is clearly unethical.

Picard should've understood that too. If Bjayzi was just a normal criminal, his words would be on point.

Bjayzi however running around the place kidnapping, torturing, killing people for their organs. You just gotta shut that stuff down. They are overplaying Picard as this holier than thou figure. Picard should be written with some street smarts to accompany the principles he displays.

I agree. It would have made more sense if they showed Picard calling some kind of authorities or saying they'll drop her off at a starbase before heading to the cube. Picard was just willing to let her stay free.

At least the only thing surgically yanked out of Icheb was his artificial eye. It could have been worse had Seven not arrived when she did.

The problem is that, just in the real world, a dozen other Bjayzl's will continue torturing people in her name. Seven might have made her a martyr, which is also a concern in real life warfare.

Something cool I noticed in the credits:

"Lullaby #2 By Jay Chattaway"

Chattaway composed the music for almost 200! episodes, including "The Inner Light" and the Ressikan flute music.
On the soundtrack for "The Inner light", the Ressikan flute music is called "Lullaby #1". I wonder where the music is heard in the episode.
