I'm glad that composer Jeff Russo isn't afraid to draw from the history of Trek music. From snippets of both the TOS and Next Generation themes, the Romulan theme from Balance of Terror and even hints of the Voyager theme. If we ever get to see any Klingons on this show, I would be surprised if we didn't hear Jerry Goldsmith's Klingon theme from Star Trek the Motion Picture. And having recognizable musical cues and callbacks is much better than the Rick Berman "sonic wallpaper" approach of scoring episodes.

ETA: if the Borg break loose and become a serious threat again, I hope he has callbacks to Ron Jones Borg music from The Best of both worlds. Easily the two episodes with the best musical score. What I'm thinking of specifically comes in at about 54/55 seconds.

Hey,as a hologram, Rios can interface directly with her residual Borg cerebral chips and really give her a 'ride' (assuming she's so inclined of course).:luvlove::whistle:;)
 
Damn. I love that clip. Excuse me while I gush:

I've always thought that Jeri Ryan was one of the franchise's great talents, and it's lovely to see her back in this role. I really enjoy the way she captures a voice that is identifiable as Seven's, but Seven's after years of change. In that one little clip, Ryan gives us some wonderful subtext about how she has lived and what she has lived for.

It's also great that Seven isn't letting Picard off the hook. Given the themes of this series, we need to see Picard as not just a man who went through something traumatic and recovered, but as ex-Borg. I hope that, for new viewers, the revelation of Picard's experience becomes a new twist or source of interest. I guess we'll see how they play it.

Also, Russo's nod to the Voyager theme is a delight.

EDIT: Anyone think it's intentional that Picard and Seven's confrontation takes place when both are wearing unusual eye accoutrements? ;)

It occurs to me that perhaps the major theme of this series is reclamation. From the Borg project to Picard's rag-tag crew to the Romulan refugees, everyone's trying to reclaim some part of their identity.
