2399 Starfleet commbadge close-up

Ah, March then.
Sorry if I was obtuse. I want sure if direct link were frowned upon.

I'm surprised that the back part is really black. There was part of me that kept hoping that it was really good, with bad lighting. The black seems very un-Starfleety to me. (Didn't stop me from ordering one though.

The background of the new combadge is not black; it looks more like a satin-finish (semi-matt) dark bronze sort of colour, as against the mirror-polish silver/chrome finish on the arrowhead/delta symbol.

This is likely why the background still looks gold in one early pic of the pins given away after the Premier. I guess it’s all down to how the metal finish catches the light.

Looking at some of the better close-up stills of Adm. Clancy, it looks like the flag officer rank bars have been cast and finished in the same way: the pips and the border are polished silver and the background of the bar looks to be the same dark bronze as the background of the combadge. This is quite a nice design feature and, with the new standard silver rank pips, makes for a cohesive overall system between the rank insignia and the combadge.

Here's the PICARD Command Rank PIPS...

I like how the arrowhead on the visitor pass kind of reverts back to the old UESPA logo arrowhead.

I'm just glad they kept the 2350-2379 rank pip system and didn't adopt something really over-the-top and fancy-looking because, well, new people are running the franchise and [Yogurt]MERCHANDISING!!![/Yogurt]

Those flag ranks are plain fucking odd. A two, four and five star Fleet Admiral, but three stars is a Vice Admiral? Seems like someone didn't do their homework on how the ranks work.

I'm guessing they just effed up? A 2 star Admiral is a Rear Admiral, 3 star is Vice, 4 star is just "Admiral" and 5 star is Fleet.

Star Trek has always stuck with US Navy ranks, even flip-flopping 1 star Admiral from Rear Lower Half to Commodore just like the Navy has done.

Ugh. That's exactly what happened. I'm exstatic to see the Commodore return (I always thought Rear Admiral, Lower Half was an idiotic nomenclature), but this is a dumpster fire.

But hey, #NotTheMilitary, amiright? :shifty:

It didn't glow. It was lit from overhead so it was easier to see in Picard's hand. The room in the chateau was gloomy in lighting and the commbadge functioned exactly the same way it did in the TNG Movies, DS9 and VOY.

I’m guessing they took the costuming mistakes in the TNG era too literally. We did see 2 pip fleet admirals in some episodes IIRC.

edit: I was wrong, TNG Fleet admirals kept showing up with 3 pips

Check the scene where he calls Raffi, the pin is slightly glowing a blue color.
