Tangentially related: Evidently both Christopher Wood and Odette Annabelle have been cast as the grown-up Steadman childen in thirtysomething(else).

She is useful when living up to her true nature and history as a villainess, instead of the object of Kara's misplaced gal-pal goals.

    Supergirl
Season 5 / Episode 12 - "Back from the Future - Part Two"

SG/Kara: Moving beyond someone trying to remind people that she is not just Supergirl in that corny-assed Karaoke, when has she ever really cared about dating anyone? From the start of the series, she never expressed any concern with dating any man she was ever interested in, and there was no deception with James or Mon El. This soap-opera trope of "will they/wont they" is just plain tiresome.

Lex: Part of the entire Lex plot is that everytime he threatens any of the main cast, you know this show will never pull that particular trigger, so there's no sense of danger in his threats. Too bad the back and forth with Brainy all but skywrites that he will use the benefits of Toyman's immortality code against him. The Brainy sub-plot would have more teeth if his intentions were a bit clouded.

Winn: Zola--er--Toyman trying to transfer his consciousness to an artificial platform. Yeah..
    Cap--I mean--Winn fighting a lookalike on a walkway in front large windows...hmm...

Lena: Q-waves. Still trying to con Rojas as her "pal"--by sabotaging her Obsidian tech. Willing to work with Lex (no matter how she might scheme against him). What a heroine of the age! I'm wondering how long it will take before Rojas and Lena actively pull out the daggers against each other.

Day: Somehow, I doubt the snoozer of a romance sub-plot between Day and Kara is over.

    NOTES:
"All of Your Toys", a track from The Monkees' January 1967 sessions, which remained unreleased until Rhino Records' Missing Links CD (1987).

    Bad CG galore.

    GRADE: C.

I just realized that with the Crisis rebooting the multiverse that it's possible that Earth-X was rebooted too...which means maybe Overgirl is still alive. I want to see more of this character, and hey, it's an excuse to bring (Dark) Arrow back for a few episodes as well. I'm not pining for a redemption story, but the way they ended Overgirl's character was meh for me.

Besides, it's always great to see Benoist playing evil versions of Supergirl.

Apparently the ship name for Lena and Kara is ‘Supercorp’ which I don’t understand. Why Corp? That’s her company name

Always convenient when the bad guys lock your heroes down in their own base. Ironic that "The Bottle Episode" was not much of a bottle episode but this one is. Oh, plus even the cyberspace is a redress of the same set, as it always is.

Apparently there is no comics Legionnaire called Computer Lad, although there is a Legion villain named Computo or sometimes C.O.M.P.U.T.O., depending on the continuity. And I don't think there's any precedent for a heroic Toyman being a Legionnaire, although there is a present-day heroic Toyman who's a teenager named Hiro Okamura. Anyway, it's nice that they gave Winn a chance to reconcile with his father, but it seems a bit abrupt to jump right to adopting his supervillain name in an attempt to "reclaim" it. Although it helps that he's doing it 1000 years in the future so the stain attached to the name has presumably worn off by then.

I don't understand why they never have Brainy show his true appearance now that they've revised the makeup to something simpler and better-looking. When they made the change, I assumed that the whole reason they simplified it from a prosthetic piece with lights to just green makeup and a wig was so that they could apply it more quickly and easily and thus use it more often, but we haven't seen it once since it was introduced. It's frustrating, since it's a cool redesign.

Because it sounds better than "Supthor?" Plus "Lara"'s already taken in-universe and "Kena" doesn't work either.

I'm pretty sure it's not the first time I've heard a "ship" name that was based on something associated with one of the characters rather than just their name, but the one I'm trying to remember won't come to me.

Yeah, I'm superficial, but I'm still not a fan of her hair for this season. It ages her look by 20 years.

Let me tell you that you are not the only one to prefer Kara/Supergirl's previous hairstyle but well, in the same time, I respect Benoist's will/need to change it (even if I really don't like fringes! -> for some people, it suits them ptretty while for others,it just doesn't enhance their face).

However, I have no problem with the new Supergirl suit, the combination is rather nice to look at and for Benoist, she is clearly more comfortable in it, what is more important. the aesthetic effect being completely sidelined -> hey, she is the one who has to wears this blue suit for a good part of the day, for several weeks so... .

I don’t have a huge issue with her new suit; I think the old one is aesthetically better in terms of colour and edges, but it’s not a big deal to me especially if she’s more comfortable in her new one.

The hair gets to me though because it’s the first difference I notice and it’s hard to retrain the brain after it’s used to a certain look. I just think it makes her look older. Subconsciously I think I’m also associating her older style with happy/bubbly Kara while the new hair combined with the darker suit and tone of the episodes makes me associate them with a less vibrant/grittier Kara. Nothing wrong with the latter per se, I was just drawn into the series because of the former is all and it’s hard to “let go”.

As an IT person, you know what you do when you have a problem with a server? You either reboot it shut it down (and off) and fix it. Given the 'Danger'; what - DEO servers don't have a physical power off switch that one can just throw? ;)

I was finally able to watch the last episode (with French subtitles, especially for all the technical vocabulary, which was martian to me!).

    So let's go:

    - Lena: I like this character since the beginning of s2 and I'm one of the few here to defend her somehow but, here more we keep moving forward in the season, more the writers take pleasure in blackening again and again this character, who was until the beginning of S5, one of the favourites. But for what purpose? Make us completely hate her, including those who until now, have understood how badly Lena had taken Kara's betrayal..., to best prepare us for an eventual departure from NC or worst, a tragic killing-off ?

(> Katie McGrath's contract seems to be up in April or May and from the rumor of the last weeks, the renewal of her contract wouldn't be granted, whatever it is of her own decision (to return in UK, for ex.) or Supergirls's producers who feel they have covered the whole question: dogs are not cats meaning a Luthor remains a Luthor, no matter his good initial intentions.
Of course, I hope that the rumor is wrong and that s6
will not happen without the presence of Lena Luthor but, McGrath's her co-stars - and friends - who were interrogated, are not in a rush to reassure fans, unlike mean to and all remain silent while in Nov. 2019, they have rushed to deny that McGrath was going to leave during the current season. Plus, IF the rumore had to be confirmed about Katie McGrath's leaving at the end of S5, I don't think that CW and Supergirl's producers will rush in announcing the bad news to her fans before the airing of the season finale...)

But back to Lena Luthor in this episode: again she used dirty tactics to reach her goals, even if it was Lex's intervention who allowed her little sister to get what she wanted. I'd like to meet the old Lena again, the one who wanted to change the name of Luthor in good, the one who wanted to differentiate herself from the rest of her family, in being good, generous, affectionate with her close friends. Today, she has nothing to envy his big brother. She is a Luthor with its a collection of dirty tricks and dangerousness. That's being said, I don't believe in the theory which consist to affirm that the evil is in the family genes and I know that something, somewhere, sometime in the near future, will make her waking up, even if it will not be without consequence for her but sometimes, confronting owns demons is already a way to walk half the way, right?! But it would be nice to move in the right direction because from Crisis,
we have the unpleasant feeling of doing things on the spot! I hope that after the 100th episode, the lines will start to move and preferably, in the long road of the redemption for Lena Luthor under Kara's protective vigilance

    - Lex: I fear that too much Lex, ends to kill our interest for this character. We guesses that his oversized ego and his will to control everything and everyone will puch him to take the lead of the Obsedian house and to reach his goal, he will use every dirty tricks, even using the emotional weakness (in particular her
anger which blinds her and distance her from everyone -> he
isolates her even more and strangely, despite everything, a part of him still shows signs of affection for her in a certain way.

    - Alex leaving the DEO : is it a surpise? She is someone who likes to be in control and to control everything around her, including people who she is closed with.
With Lex Luthor in charge of the DEO, she isn't anymore. Did you notice how difficult it is for her to obey orders from superiors. In fact, as well Hailey than Agent Liberty and now Lex Luthor, she can't stand to receive orders even from Jon Jozz in season 1 to 3. She likes to do as she pleases and too bad for the consequences but with the DEO 's materials, Kara and their Superfriends, she feels protected. Now, even if she is back under Jonn's wing, things will be different... maybe for the better.
A question, how she will pay the rent of her flat knowing that
helping the widow and the oppressed doesn't make much? Plus with Lex, the work won't be easy.

    - Winn: I LOVE this character and he will be deeply missed after the 100th episode. Jeremy Jordan is a fantastic actor. Winn used to offer us the happy face in seasons 1-2-3 but here, we had a more dramatic side.
Even if his advices to Kara about Lena and William were wise, we never really know the future, especially if it changes here and there according to time travel. After the events of Crisis and now, the fight again the original Toyman and Mister unpronounceable name's proposition to revisit the past events, does Winn really know what the future really reserves to our friends.

    - William Dey: of course, I'm glad that Kara refused his proposition of a date, even after Winn adviced her to accept to see him outside the work but I'm pretty sure that, the idea of a romance between them will be on the table AGAIN after the 100th episode or even, in next season if Nair's contract is renewed since they cast the actor for this goal, regardless there is no chemistry between Nair and Benoist ; regardlessn the character of William Dey was NEVER developped; in particular as reporter and finally ; regardless, it will create a new rift in fandoms. Right the moment fans are going to feel that there will be a Kara/William's romance in the air, it's going to be a boycott again ... unless, producers/writers definitely discards this storyline, which is unpopular in quite every fandoms even those who want Kara to be happy with someone!
-> Creating a little drama can be usefull to arouse people's interest but in general, there is someting inexplicable that occurs: people fall in love of some characters at first sight (Lena Luthor and not only because of her physical appearance even if since the beginning of s5, she almost became a stranger ; Mon-El even if he acted like a jerk in half of s2). For William Dey, let's be honest, he is randomly present on screen, his storyline is uninteresting and useless to the point that a great majority of viewers forgot him before Crisis.

I agree with the notation, a C is the correct one. IF the 100th gets the same notation, despite the Kara/Lena's scenes, the return of Mon-El/Agent Liberty and Sam/Reign, Supergirl's producers could begin to worry!

If McGrath isn’t returning for S6 the obvious plotting is to have her sacrifice herself to save Kara in the season finale.

Maybe though Supergirl's producers prefer to send their characts living another life (Winn joined the Legion of Heros and James returned in his hometown). It would be tragic if they decided to kill off Lena Luthor, expecially after to have made her live in a very dark atmosphere (completly isolated since the beginning of S5, spending her time in her labo and being under Lex psychotic influence).
Sorry but, this character deserves better

Maybe, although I think the dramatic "allure" of having her sacrificing herself to save Kara might be too strong to overcome for the writers.

It is almost certain that killing Lena could provoke a kind of blacklash towards producers/witers (even though in DC comics, the character meets a tragic fate as seeing as she is killed by Lex*) especially after the treatment she already got since the beginning of s5 ... and I don't talk about the strong (=violent) reaction from SuperCorp fans who will surely see a way to definitively kill their favourite though non-existent - couple though popular to impose Kara/William as an eventual endgame (even if I'm pretty sure that if will fail so much William Dey seems already impopular while he was rarely present on TVscreens) and who will not fail to verbally insult (different rudenesses or threats in any kin) the responsibles. I don't think that CW/Supergirl's producers and actors will be ready to risk that. Ratings are already bad. IF they were to lose to lose a fringe of their loyal fans, that would complicate things.

    * But we saw many times that the series was taking great liberties with the original comics, in changing the fate of some heros/heroins and creating some very new characters for the needs of the series :so, why to kill Lena Luthor while they saved Kara Danvers/Supergirl in Crisis; while to have sent James Olsen to live another lifestyle, etc...?

I caught an article written by someone who had the chance to see the soo expected episode and sent his comments afterwards. Read if you wish and enjoy: https://www.hypable.com/supergirl-100th-episode-screener-secrets/

Writers don't always follow common sense.

My prediction is still a Mon-El/Kara endgame, even if it only happens in the last season of the show, or even the last few episodes.

I agree, Kara/Mon-El seems to be the most acceptable. Even if he mostly acted like a jerk in S2, I really liked seeing them together on screen because of the natural chemistry which emerged from them). In season 3, he was more tolerable to watch (wiser, less impulsive, less egocentric). So yes, I vote for Mon-El as her potential but the most correct of the suitors introduced. And he won't even have to come and get it if the actor playing the role is unavailable, it will only suffice to know that Kara will join the Legion to know that they will be endgame ... even if some people implied through Winn's words, that Mon El had surely moved on...
But in this case, why making us lose our time with William as a new love interest while there is a very good chance that this storyline be abandoned sooner than producers think due to its growing unpopularity, whether it comes from SuperCorp fans or from others fandoms.
-> Kara/Mon-El ended after 1 season, James/Lena or should I say "Lame" began in 3B and ended before the end of 4A so much this it was mocked and critized. So, bets are out: how much do you think Kara / William will hold in terms of time?:hugegrin:

William is only a stand in IMO. That's why the writers are not committing to it.
