Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Love the ramscoops! And the glowing wings. Is there a separate stern glow for impulse engines, or are the wings supposed to be It?

Any clear shots of Seven's ship?

Someone more skilled with taking screenshots than me might be able to catch one but that is the best I could do of it there beneath the Bird of Prey - it's moving very quickly!

i love this updated BOP btw. other than the impulse engines, the only real big change i could see was the cowling over the bussards (or whatever the romulan counterpart to that tech is). this thing would look cool in a fight against disco's other D7.

part of me was a little miffed they didn't go for a romulan warbird, but the la sirena probably couldn't have taken on a warbird, even if it was al little junked up over the past 20 years. so this is fine.

Yeah, a TOS ship looking more TOS in (almost) the 25th century than most of what we saw on Discovery. I don't get that worked up over it, but they could've done better on that front.
I was surprised to see them use a classic old school Romulan BoP, it looked pretty spot on but seemed out of place in the year 2399.

Why not one of the older 2360 era Warbird designs to really amp up the risk factor, I never really felt they were in any danger as soon as I saw it was an antique even though I am sure it has been upgraded.

It could simply be that the majority of the D'Deridex (sp) and Valdore type warbirds were either destroyed, trying to secure the far flung remains of the empire, or otherwise committed so the Romulans had to drag some antiques out of storage?

Entirely possible but I would have thought all the ships would have been used for the rescue, there was no way the Romulan Star Empire would be able to survive the loss of their home system.

I have only seen the BoP in screenshots posted here but the first thing that came to mind was "where the hell did they find that old boat" and second "its not very threatening because of it".

Dont get me wrong it looks great but its a bit too out of place, it would be like having the Discoprise turning up in 2399.

I can roll with it though.

Those Warbirds were enormous ships, much larger than even the Enterprise D. I think a Warbird would be too big a threat this early in the story.

Well it's like the ST:O story about how the Constitution Class was revived during the Dominion War due to a shortage of ships and then was kept on because the Federation suddenly rediscovered how amazing the design was...

I hope folks realize that the Romulan BOP was NOT being commanded by Romulan's.

It was being used by a local Pirate (I'm hoping an Orion one) to control the quadrant, since there wasn't any official Romulan or Federation presence around anymore.

It would have added to the threat making it realistic for Picard to have to leave asap.

Plus it could have been in a state of disrepair with limited targeting and just generally being slow.
