Easy to tell from the camera not being able to stay still for one moment.

It looked a lot like how STO has it in a couple of their episodes.

Okay, that's more like it. Better. It still doesn't feel like Trek, but this is the closest it's been since the show started. The planet felt a bit like Firefly, but I didn't care. The plot held my interest at least. The main problem I'm having is that I have absolutely no interest in the B storyline of Soji, Narek, and the Borg Cube.

    7.5/10

Rios' various holograms having different accents and personalities is a fun little tidbit.

I know right, should've turned him to stone and shattered his whole body into a million pieces instead.

Nice to see what an updated TOS era bird of prey looks like. Too bad its likely the only chance we'll ever get to see one.

I wonder if it was an Orion Pirate that owned it?
They said the guy name but didn't hear anything about his race.

I accept that people have different opinions and desires but wow, the way some people react to this show really makes me think they're wearing some huge rose-tinted glasses. I can only imagine the ratings and comments we'd be reading if the internet was around during TNG season one!

I really enjoyed that, the world building around the Romulans is absolutely amazing and something we've sorely lacked throughout all of Star Trek when it comes to non-Federation species. Even the Klingons who have probably had more exposure than any other alien race have felt so monolithic until DSC.

That 'old Bird of Prey' was an absolute delight to see, and I love the context in which it was used. RIP. I really, desperately hope we're going to get some beauty shots of 2399 Starfleet ships at some point, though. I am still holding out for
Captain Worf and the USS Enterprise turning up in the last scene of episode 10 to get Picard and co out of a tight spot fighting the Borg Cube or something... perhaps he can call the La Sirena a 'tough little ship' as he beams them aboard :D

Seeing Seven of Nine brought tears to my eyes.
I'll admit it, I want to see everyone. I may never pass this way again.

Yup, been waiting to see her again. It was a fine intro for her.

I really like how they've balanced the conflict between Picard's idealism against the realities his grand scheme couldn't change. Promises are a prison for him alright.

I am still finding the Narek and Rizzo stuff slow and cliche evil.

I’m watching this for the characterizations and I greatly appreciate the slower pace and attention to detail in the conversations.

I’ve also read the book that just came out and it is more clear why everything is so screwed up. Politics got in the way in both the Federation and the Star Empire. The Romulans shot themselves in the foot because they could not trust the Federation and the Federation worlds got tired of all its resources being directed at saving an old enemy who didn’t even appreciate the effort. And Picard is a well intentioned idealist, but not a politician. He’s arrogant and blind to the undercurrents, as he was in this episode. How much of it is his personality and how much the awareness that he is dying, I don’t know.

I like the multiple hologram versions of Rios and the sudden appearance of Seven of Nine. Adult Elnor looks like a Lord of the Rings elf. I find myself wondering if Narek will turn out to be a synthetic created by the Tal Shiar to root out Soji or he has Borg implants. He and his sister are rather creepy together, but he seems to have actual feelings for Soji.

If so, I really don't think at this point Narek is doing it willingly.

She probably took advantage of him as he hit Romulan Puberty and once he started to realize the gist of it, it became impossible to refuse.
She'd just cut his balls off.

I've noticed a lot of sites just churning out article after article that are essentially glorified BBS posts.
