8 for me, i thought this felt more tonally consistent than last week and getting the characters together was satisfying. but man i'm glad the pilot chopped into three episodes is over and maybe we can get complete episodes, even if they're part of a single arc storyline. also spaaaace.

We don't need it "spelled out" but we need a logical explanation that tracks. And "Starfleet's petty" isn't it. You can't be fired TODAY from an ordinary job just for your association with someone else.

There's no way Starfleet acts that way and saying "ha ha remember the Ent-A" from 30 years ago is the dumbest rationale you could have come up with.

In the ten seconds it took me to compose my last post, I came up with a far better explanation putting zero thought into it.

It's inexcusable that this show is making these kinds of dumb mistakes.
But you can be when your boss finds out your using drugs to function.

My wife, who up until this show has only watched Voyager (and she loves it), is annoyed that they aren't answering important questions.

What happened to the Borg post-Endgame?
What is going on with The Doctor now that synthetic life is banned?

No offense to your wife, but those aren't important questions. At least not for this show to be concerned with.

Taking the flagship of the fleet, the Enterprise, to head up a relocation project half the Federation doesn't even want makes no sense. Picard would logically be on a ship that would oversee the Romulus evacuation, and that ship wouldn't be the Enterprise E.

Why not?

If Seven wasn't going to be on the show I might agree with you.

But I did tell my wife to at least wait until Seven is introduced, they might (hopefully) include some exposition then.

Amen, SG. I've been hoping Seven mentions The Doctor's present fate since the day Jeri Ryan was announced; now that we know there's a ban on synthetic life, the question rings ever louder.

I take it you assume Dumbledore's orientation is undefined then? To this day there is debate on whether creator "out of work" words should be taken as canon or not.

Different situation entirely. Everyone is rushing to "excuse" Raffi's utterly illogical firing by making up excuses the show doesn't provide or by extrapolating what the actress said in interviews.

The show itself explicitly says Raffi was "fired" due to blowback from people being mad at Picard That's bullshit, no organization would work that way, let alone a government body in the 24th Century.

So those people inventing explanations actually agree with my point, hence the "well, she was a drug user! And maybe she pissed people off already!"

But you can't just invent shit to "fix" the shoddy storytelling of the show.

many people wonder why Cap Rios talks to Picard about paying for his work when there is no money in the fed. But there are people who forget that there is federation credit to buy imported products and/or services that cannot be replicated like eating at the Sisko restaurant!

You must have lived a sheltered life to think this.

Its called cleaning house. It happens literally all of the time.

And there are 200,000 lawyers ready to swoop in when it does. It's illegal and we are still talking about the 24th Century, where things are supposed to be a bit better.

Even in terms of a TV show, getting fired because you're friends with someone who got in trouble is crap writing.

It would be incredibly disappointing if The Doctor isn't mentioned considering how important he was to Seven's development.

not for retaliation. which is what Raffi tells us happened.

All they have to say is "we don't need you", or "you looked at someone the wrong way". Since we don't see the discharge papers, we don't know. Raffi says "they took away my security clearance". Which leads me to believe she saw it as them pushing her out the door, which means she probably quit. But saying she quit wouldn't have the psychological effect on Picard she wanted.

I wouldn't want to live in a world where everything had to be spoonfed to me.
