That is way too much insectual tension between Mrs. Sterling and Boy and Romulan. I feel like they're one camcorder away from a featured PornHub video.
I can see that: I was totally looking for them to start ripping each other's clothes off.
Of course, said video would claim they were step-siblings, but yeah...

Trek's too timid to go there.

I just watched this again (I've been doing an early morning watch and evening rewatch for all the episodes so far) and I enjoyed it more the second time. It still felt short, and I still question some things but it was good. Probably up to a 7 from the 6 I posted earlier. Last week, I enjoyed episode 2 less on the rewatch. I guess all the episodes have been solid and enjoyable so far, it just did end up being a bummer waiting 3 weeks for them to get to this point when 2 of the episodes felt short and felt like some things were spinning their wheels a bit.

I noticed when Dr. Jurati said she was going with Picard, he exchanged glances with Laris, and Laris and Zhaban exchanged glances with each other. I wonder if they suspect something is up with her I'm reading too much into it.

I haven’t perused the whole thread, but has anyone else noticed the increasing issue with contemporary sayings and lingo creeping into the dialogue? Every use of “hell yeah,” “dude,” “bogus,” and “pro tip” break the immersion in the story and universe for me a little bit.
Yeah, the dialog is very "today", often distractingly so. "Pro tip" was really too right now.

It's funny how everyone forgot that Engage was Pike's catchphrase in The Cage, but now became associated with Picard and Discovery changed Pike's to Hit It.
Does twice make it a catchphrase?

Could possibly the remnants of the Romulan Supernova be seen from Earth?
If the nova was <15 years ago the nova would have to be <15 light years away to be visible. 40 Eradini, where Vulcan is sometime said to be, is farther than that.

Just finished watching it a little while ago, personally it’s the weakest of the episodes aired so far. Here are some things I didn’t care for or thought they messed up, apologies for any repeats...

So those were supposed to be the first Romulans assimilated by the Borg? They forget about the one from Voyager? Where the crew comes across a settlement of freed Borg.

The smoking, ones vaping and the other continuously has a cigar in his mouth. Yeah, I know it’s nitpicking, but in the past Trek went out of its way to mock smoking. It seems so out of place.

What’s with all the talk about money? Why the fascination with it by certain characters?

lastly, not sure I trust Dr. Jurati, here schtick about being a bad liar could just be good cover.

Even in Trek everyone isn't going to have a huge family estate to live on...........sorry Gene.
Yeah but it shouldn’t be any challenge to get a place she wants. I doubt she’s forced to live in a caravan.

So was it just me or did the shape of the tritanium shard in Rios’ shoulder look a lot like the little shard that floats around throughout the main title intro and eventually winds up in Picard’s right cheek? Could be coincidence but...

Indeed. Just like the Admiral's colourful metaphors from last weeks episode.

I liked this episode a little better. Seeing Hugh again is great, I want to own that weird Romulan Triominoes game, and I love Picard's Romulan employees. Also kudos on showing that weird Zhat Vash acid tooth thing fully, I had to rewind it on the first episode just to make sure there wasn't a Romulan/dilophosaurus hybrid thing going on. I'm just hoping they quit leaning on contemporary phrases so much and go back to the future.

I think he means on that Cube. It would be a odd statement if he meant all Romulans.

It's just the Universal Translator interpretation of late 24th century slang into something the viewing audience will understand and relate to.

No biggie.

No biggie.
Why don't I hear Canadian slang then? :D
Because I really would like to, lol.

Great Scott! I actually have a student named Amarys right now, oddly enough.
Good to see you again!

What counts as a "contemporary" phrase, anyway?

My criteria? One that feels too recent a development to have passed the test of time.

We've been saying "hang up" meaning to end a call for over a century now, so it's plausible it will still be in use 300 years from now. Blue jeans have been around for about 150 years, so I imagine we'll see those in the far future too.

The thing that really jumped out at me was actually the vaping. Of course people will smoke in the 24th century, but the very specific thing that is vaping is so recent that its inclusion in Picard feels like pandering to a fad. Maybe vaping will stand the test of time too, but it could also look as silly 20 years from now as the space hippies in "Way to Eden" have for decades.
