I am loving every minute of this show. I can not watch it and look for inconsistencies in the timeline or past storylines, although I do understand how important it is for some. One pair of sunglasses, a swear word or a new secret Romulan society is not a deal breaker for me. I am soaking in the story without questioning every detail. At the end of each episode I have wanted more...much more.

I have watched Star Trek since the 70’s. I loved every episode of the original series, back then. Forty years later I can barely watch them. I love TNG but with time some of those episodes have become unwatchable, for me. I have grown with the show. What entertained me at 5 years old, a teenager, a young adult and now, has changed. I don’t mind the changes in the show for I have changed. Same with Discovery, faster pace and all shiny. I love it too, and love it more now that the Klingons have hair;)
As for Picard episode 3...
I really enjoyed the last minute with the familiar music. Goosebumps and nostalgic tears.
I love the artifact and can’t wait to see where this storyline leads. I love the idea of former Borg being freed and trying to find a new place in the universe.
This is my first post, I have lurked for awhile. I have enjoyed reading everyones theories and opinions. I am the casual lifelong fan who is so excited with all the new shows!
Oh, and I hope Agnes is not a spy! I really like her and want her on the good side!

Half-way through. Interesting new characters. I like Musiker and Rios a lot. They seem very real. I'm still forming my thoughts about them and won't post anything prematurely. I know this board. Someone will grab onto one thing, take it out of context, and run with it. Especially when something isn't so clear-cut.

That green extremely acid thing of theirs. It makes me think of Alien (the movie), maybe they found a nest of these things...

I agree this episode isn't as stellar as the previous two. However, I am just happy to see that 26 years after 'All Good Things' and 18 years after 'Nemesis,' my favorite Captain and childhood hero is now back on another space adventure boldly going where no one has gone before.

I'm also pleased to see he got to say this magic word once more:

I'm not sure.
I got the impression from next weeks preview that FREECLOUD is where Maddox is supposedly hiding, not where Elnor is.
(Picard asks Elnor to come with them them)
Also, Raffi didn't say that FREECLOUD was a Planet, it might be a space station of some sort.

The planet where they pick up Elnor and see the Romulan Refugees seemed to be a different place.

Correct! The didn't say FREECLOUD was a planet. It might be a virtual arena or a space station or who knows what. Can't wait to find out. As a lifelong Bowie Fan I was led to a song that (GASP!) I had never heard. It's called Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud. Pretty amazing ballad! For Bowie/Picard crossover fans, here you are:

It felt padded.

I see two possibilities.

1. Raffi was already kinda a damaged/flawed officer who was only still in Starfleet because Jean Luc was personally protecting her.

2. She wasn't really fired, but immediately assigned to shit she didn't want to do, so she felt forced to end her career abruptly.

Or both.

Concerning point 2, doesn't she actually say "lost my security clearance" rather than "fired" or anything close to that?

Starfleet doesn't seem to have an "up-or-out" policy, instead letting officers stagnate at whatever level they stick at. If Raffi saw her career as going nowhere forever, I can see her bailing.

Looks like I've voted with the plurality again. I'm kind of with the camp saying that the first three episodes would have worked better as a 2-hour double-sized premiere, although I'm not quite clear about how I'd cut it down to that size.

Oh, and I hope Agnes is not a spy! I really like her and want her on the good side!
Oh used a Ceti eel on Agnes.

Oh: First things first, Doctor. ...Kill Admiral Picard.
Agnes: Commodore, that it is difficult. I ...try to obey, but...
Oh: Kill him.
Agnes: I...
Oh (on intercom): Kill him, Agnes, now!
(Agnes shoots herself and a Ceti eel crawls out of her ear)
Rios: God's sakes! What is it?
(Picard vaporises the Ceti eel)
Picard: Oh, you bloodsucker.
Picard (on intercom): You're gonna have to do your own dirty work now. Do you hear me? Do you?
Oh: Picard! Picard, you are still alive... my old friend.
Picard: Still, 'old friend'. You've managed to kill just about everyone else, but like a poor markswoman, you keep missing the target.
Oh: Perhaps I no longer need to try, Admiral.
(Soji is beamed away)
Raffi: No! ...She can't take her!
Picard: Oh! Oh, you have Soji, but you don't have me!
Picard (on intercom): You were going to kill me, Oh. You're going to have to come down here! You're going to have to come down here!
Oh: I've done far worse than kill you, ...I've hurt you. I shall leave you as I left your fleet on Mars. Buried alive. Buried alive!
Picard: OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Those holographic interfaces on starships are a security risk. Any hostile on the viewscreen can see ship specs, I'm surprised no one ever pointed that out.

Speaking of ship specs, that whole speech by Picard about how Rios' ship was kept to Starfleet specs wasn't just odd, it was absurd. Considering the sheer variety of Starfleet interiors (some even of the same ship as seen of the Enterprise in Discovery), it seems highly unlikely Picard could know if Rios' ship was in Starfleet shape unless he read the tech details on a PADD or something.
