It was a bit weird though the way Rios looked at Picard and waited for him to say it.

Almost like the two of them had been on a starship bridge together before.
(but it's pretty clear they are meeting for the first time)
:wtf:
Rios probably noticed how he looked at the chair and thought about sitting down there

It was weird that Picard referred to the pilot being a XO on a “heavy cruiser”. Usually in Trek they would just say the name or class of vessel, not it’s type. I know he does say the name of the vessel which I forget.
I wonder if that was done because at the time of filming they hadn’t decided what class it was. I could only think of 4-5 classes of ships that it could be. The Excelsior (which I imagine would be retired by this point), the Ambassador, the Galaxy, the Sovereign or the Odyssey.
The cynic in me just wants to say these writers just don't know Star Trek that well and don't want to bother with the minutiae. The reality is that they probably didn't think it mattered much.

Didn't the Borg hacking the Enterprise-E dish manage to get a couple of pulses off before it was destroyed?

I don't remember if they ever got a message off or not, before the "interplexing beacon" (or whatever they called it) was knocked out.

I loved the episode, but Picard called "JL" made me feel uncomfortable, sorta.
In the prequel comic, Raffi explained that she calls him "JL" simply to avoid being so formal with him--and also because she knows Picard "likes" it.

Personally, I didn't think it was always necessary to do that.

This was a bit dull-ish. At times it reminded me of Farpoint — time to meet the characters. But I didn’t really warm to The Moody Captain, with the heavy-handed, brain-splattering self-exposition, or to poor, self-pitying Raffi (though I did like her space trailer). Hopefully they will come into their own, but the ending just left me wishing we were traveling with the Romulan housekeepers instead.

It lowkey bothers me that Starfleet HQ in this show looks completely different from Starfleet HQ as seen in the past shows.

I felt the same way about Picard's home in France for a time, but then I remembered that the house burnt down in Generations so it makes sense that it looks different since they rebuilt it.

The writers tried too hard trying to fill in details for Raffi and Rios. Their personal quirks could have been filled in as we go. However, I liked both characters, and their scenes with Picard were generally moving and well acted.

... not as much as Picard's Romulan keepers. Picard, Laris and Zhaban could have been the middle-aged Mod Squad.

Hmm.

In episode 2, the Zhat Vash are described as myth.

Soji is trying to probe the thoughts of an expert of Romulan mythology.

ETA: Is someone fighting tge Zhat Vash through the sisters?

I just remembered that Picard has piloting experience. He made the Enterprise-D do that crazy drift move in an asteroid field to escape that ancient ship graveyard thing. So why do they even need Han Rios?

Kidding...I know he's 94 and probably didn't learn to fly the new hologram interface. But still.....

I’d more invested if Picard were commanding a small Romulan ship stolen and crewed by the housekeepers. That seems like a cooler setup than the ragtag crew trope. Plus, they seem more useful than, say, Raffi.

I'm now at the part where Picard's Romulan assistants held their own against the Romulan bad guys! Before this episode, I always wondered why Picard didn't have any security of any kind at his home. It never occured to me that his two Romulan assistants WERE two badass fighters! Brilliant.

He probably still has some security. He mentioned to Dahj that simply tracking his location needs a security clearance. As a high-ranking admiral, he'd probably be entitled to crazy security around his property. But since his housekeepers are ex-Tal Shiar, he probably thought that was enough.
